You can go into your setting menu & disable the system.
Make sure the tires are correctly inflated first.

The TPM sensors have integrated batteries which can't be replaced, but you'll need an SDS to check their condition. On a five year old car, it's a safe bet that they're nearing the end of their service life. I'm starting to see lots of '05's in with TPM issues. You might want to try a "hard reset" of the TPM control unit by removing fuse #70 for a few minutes, then trying to re-activate the system. I don't think you can disable TPM via the settings menu. Am I missing something 'Doc?

Models 215/220:
1. Set tire pressure on all four tires to the proper value (for tire pressure values, see label located on fuel filler flap). 2. Turn ignition key to position 2, but do not start the engine. 3. Using the left “menu” button (6, Figure 1) located on the steering wheel, call up the trip/main odometer. 4. Continue by pressing the left upper “page” button (4, Figure1), until the tire pressure display appears in the display located in the instrument cluster. 5. Next press the “R” button on the instrument cluster and hold until the following message appears: “TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING REACTIVATE?”. Selecting “YES” reactivates the tire pressure control. I think you can Deactivate pressure monitoring this way as well??

Where is Fuse #70 in a 05 S430
MB Doc- The reset did not work for the TPM as advised. I was unable to disable the TPM through the settings menu. Second recommendation was to remove fuse #70 and try a reset. How do I find fuse #70? The manual gives several locations of fuses but none of the numbered etc. Does pulling the fuse disable the error message and idiot light? Thanks!!

Fuse #70 is located in the rear fuse box, beneath the right rear seat. You can access this fuse box by removing the footwell light panel below the seat bench (no tools required). Not all the fuses are numbered, so it can be difficult to figure out which one to pull, so try this. You'll see several fuses, some installed vertically, some horizontally. You want to remove the vertical fuse located in the fifth slot, counting from the left. When counting the slots, include those which contain no fuse, if any. After re-installing the fuse, try to re-activate TPM in the usual manner. |

ILUVMILS, Thanks for the excellent suggestion regarding Fuse #70. I purchased 3 TPM sensors at a cost of $216 each from the local Mercedes dealer, had them installed at a tire repair shop, and used the reset method described by ILUVMILS.
This is what I did: I removed the fuse as directed, left it out for a few minutes, and after driving for a few minutes, the TPM sensor reset. Now, I do not have to worry about taking the car to a mechanic to have it reset. The local Mercedes dealer told me that to install and reset each TPM sensor would be $220 each. Outrageous! Btw, I have a 2006 S430, and I replaced all 4 TPM sensors in 2011. Thanks again. |

The fuse is found in the 5th slot from the passenger side to the driver side, that is, in the 5th slot from the left when looking toward the rear of the car.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to thank those in it for the help this gave me. Our 2004 S430 TPS yellow light has been on for 6 moths since having the car battery replaced. Our Baton Rouge Mercedes dealership/service was asking $800 to replace the control module because it was giving the "inoperable" message when attempting to reactivate it. I declined that repair because I didn't have the money at the time and it wasn't harming anything by having the yellow TPS light appear.
Then I found this thread. I simply removedd the #70 fuse (per ILUVMILS instruction) for a few minutes with the car turned off. Then I reinserted the fuse, started up the car and followed mbdoc instructions. And that fixed it! The TPS Control module is no longer inoperable. No more yellow warning light. Tire pressure is reading correctly. I'm very grateful. |
