Nokian WR's on 126 chassis

I just put a set of 195-70-14 Nokian WR's on my 1983 300SD.

I will report back periodically how these tires perform .... I bought them after much research to give reasonable summer performance plus safe winter performance as I do end driving on ice and snow from time to time.

Threw away a set of about 50% used Michelin Harmony's, which were fine in the summer but downright dangerous in true winter conditions. The rubber compound used is just way too hard for use in freezing conditions on that tire.

I run Nokian I9's in the summer and Hakka 1's on my MPV in the winter so I am gradually moving over to 100% Nokian tires.

Update after 800 mile drive

I LIKE these tires. HUGE improvement over the Michelins on ice and snow. And quiet at speed on dry pavement - no noticeable increase in road noise.

High speed steering perhaps a little vaguer than the Michelins but overall I am very pleased with the change.

Another Nokian Fan

I'm also a big Nokian user: The WR (and now WR G2) is a superb tire for my application, and I suspect for many others on this forum. I have them mounted on separate wheels for winter use, where I still spend 90% in the dry or wet, but 10% in snow conditions, when I truly need a winter tire. Friends use them year-round with no complaints. The WR is one of the only all-seasons that is rated for snow (snowflake/mountain designation), and this tire drives fine in the dry, and is quite capable in snow conditions, a significant improvement from typical M+S tires.

Until our sponsor Tire Rack decides to carry them, I buy them from Ryan at Tire Factory, drop shipped to my choice of installer. His prices are fair and he is a pleasure to do business with. 1.800.576.1009. I'm unaffiliated, just a satisfied customer.

Regards,
Bob

all we drive are nokians.
we got 102XXX on 2 tires on our '98 Deville Concourse. that was our first set EVER. we're hooked.
i just put a set of WR's on my 240, we have WR g2 on the E320 CDI and Vativa's on our 03 Suburban (used only in winter & when towing/hauling people) as well as our GL320
they've been GREAT!

Matthias08-

I am in the south Dayton (Centerville/Miami Twp. area) and have a 99 S420. I am interested in putting on the Nokians because all I see in any fora are high reviews. It appears Grismer is the only place in the area to get them- is this true, and if so, how much did you pay? If not, where did you get them and for how much? Thanks.

Nokian source

After some hunting, I found an attractive price, and great service, from Ryan at TireFactory: 1.800.576.1009. Ryan will drop ship to your favorite installer.

I have no affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

Regards,
Bob

As I do recall the 16' WR's were about a bill and a half ($150 ) each including all warranties/roadhazzard/install....... very well worth it. don't skimp on a thing. just put it this way... my dad was thinking about getting a demo/ C280 4 Matic from Mercedes Benz of cincinatti to ONLY drive in the winter. (hates that car, but its always the loaner we get)
snowed. i took him down to grismers DOWNTOWN and the car was INSTANTLY amazing in the snow.

I suggest the only branch to go to is the one downtown (patterson rd?) maybe.
ask for the manager.
he's the guy who is at the 2nd desk/kiosk on the right salt and pepper hair
he's amazing to work with.

oh.
with the new WR (WR G2) they're trying to move the old style WR's...
we got the G2 on our E320CDI for the same price as the old ones... something like 20 or 30 a tire cheaper...
but yea.
if anything. just mention that Frank Svet sent you... he'll know who we are
we've gotten
2 sets on 98 Deville Concourse
2 sets for 01 SLK 320
1.5 Sets for 03 Suburban
1 set on GL320CDI
1 set on an 87 Buick Grand National
the set for the E320 last month.

oh. and I'm in Beavercreek. went to the one on north fairfield due to odd wear on inner tread of 2 rear tires.
the guy was suggesting i was doing donuts/burnouts w/ our suburban. haha.
I laughed and told him if anything... suggest that on our other cars.
i went downtown and they replaced those same tires 20 minutes later. free of charge.
I'll take pictures tomorrow when I get off work
they actually look great on everything we drive.

oh. haha. do you want to sell the S420 to me?
i'm looking for either an E420/430 or creampuff 300
or an S420/500.

Matthias-

Thanks for the tip. I would have taken it to the Grismer in Centerville on SR 48 as it is the closest, but I will go downtown on your rec. I was not all that impressed with the customer service at the Centerville one last time I was there.

I will make sure to ask for the G2's.

I appreciate your offer about my 420, but I am very happy with it (except the home equity line I will need to take out if gas prices go up anymore). There is a few spots of rust I need to have fixed but other than that it is a great car (127,000 miles and going strong).
