What am I missing here? Tire balance issue.

This is driving me nuts and if I have to buy new tires I'll never buy Yokohoma's again.

I just had the shop recheck my tires and I watched them, the shop is right they are balanced. So why do I still have a wicked vibration between 60-80? The tires are cupped, if you run your hands backwards along the outside of the tread you can feel the ridge's. I don't know whats considered bad, but its very noticeable. The shop said thats whats probably doing it. Would it cuase balance issues? The tires do have about 20k miles on them and are 1/2 used up. This started over the winter. I stacked this set in the basement, and when I bolted them on this spring they vibrate. I store the car on another junk set to keep these from getting flat spots.

I doudt its the car, everything has been replaced. Except the upper and lower control arms. But its all tight. When I get around to it I will change out those parts, probably over this coming winter. But for now everything is tight so I'm not.

Its not the wheels, they are as old as the tires, they have probably about 20k miles on them now. I have never hit anything or curbed them. No it can't be the wheels becuase the tires were fine last fall.

If I have to buy new tires now I'm going to be rip ****

Hattie are your wheel bearings tight? Shocks? Inflation? My SDL is very sensative to inflation.

Shocks were replaced less then 20k miles ago with Bilstein comforts.
No play in any of the wheels, I check and repacked the front wheel bearings two years ago and they were perfect. The rears I will do at some point.

I run 32psi all around, I have since I got the car.

Could'nt agree with you more.
I bought a set of Yokohama's AVS DBS2 tires last year.
After 5 k miles & 2 re-balance jobs, the inside and outside row of treads was severely cupped.
Despite new shocks and very tight steering/suspension components.
NEVER, EVER Yokohama's again.
P.S. they are discontiniued now,..... would'nt you know it.

You havent replaced any control arms? They may be tight but the lower control arm bushings are pretty crucial for tire wear and proper alignment.

My lower control arm bushings are shot (they're hydraulic filled I think) and give me a good vibration at higher speeds.

are they cupped or sawtoothed?

sawtoothing is from only receiving braking effort. to combat it you swap the tires from side to side on the front.

No its feathering, and its slight. Its most certainly the tires. The car is on rails at 100mph the suspension is fine.

I'm going to have them road force balanced, soon as I locate a shop around here that does it.
