300 SE in the snow?
Maybe this isn't the right place to post. If so, my apologies. I know this is an "out of season" topic - I'm looking ahead so I can budget if necessary.
I'm going to be using a 91 300SE as my daily driver come the Fall, and was wondering how they are in the snow? (I've only driven FWD) I'm careful, but I was wondering if this is the type of car that would need a dedicated set of snows. Also, with RWD, can you put 2 snows on the rear, or would I need a full set of 4? THANKS! |

In my opinion, good all season radials will suffice. Of course, if you have any serious hills to deal with, then you may want to go with something like Blizzaks. Personally my favorite would be the Nokian WR, which is a great compromise between All Season and Winter tires.
You will figure out the difference between FWD and RWD after a few snows. My experience in NY, NJ is that snows are in-frequent, but can sometimes be pretty intense. I never had any difficulty driving in snow all over the east in my 300E's with performance tires, i.e. worse than all season tires. I would think the S Class would be better than the E in the snow because it is heavier. Steve |

Steve, thanks.
It's got some "chunky" BF Goodrich all seasons, that look like they can pass for snows anyway! I'll see how they do and take it from there! I have the Nokians on my other car, and really like them. I run 'em all year! |
