Well, if you click on the TireRack.com link at the top of this page, select "select tire size" and enter 175 70R 13 you should find 43 different tires in that size. 70 was the only aspect I tried, with decent results I might add. Don't know how tall you want 'em.

I doubtless was not clear in my original post. I am looking for an older European size specification: 175R13. This is not the same as 175/70R13 in the Pmetric series. I have heard that the 175R13 tubeless was an original fitmet option for my 1959 M-B 220S which came with standard bias tires 6.70x13.
The service manual for my ponton makes clear that there was a tubeless tire option at that time. What it does not tell me is whether this was also a radial tire, or was there such an animal as a nonradial tubeless? The manual also does not specify the tubeless tire size. Any thoughts?

When no aspect ratio is written, its automatically assumed to be an 80 aspect ratio.
Therefore all 155R13 are equivalent to 155/80/13s. Once vehicles started having lower aspect ratios, they later becomes written in. If you are looking for a 175/R13, you are really looking for 175/80/R13s in todays tire sizes. Using the 6.70x13 tire size, basically the width is reported in inches. So all you do is multiply the 6.70*25.4 (conversion of inches to mm) and you will get 170.18mm, or rounded to the nearest 175/80/13. So you can go to TireRack and look at 175/80/13s. There are 2 car tires, the Dunlop Axiom Plus (which is WhiteWall) and a Yokohama Aegis LS4 (which is also WhiteWall) for $31 and $36 respectively.

if a tire size does not have an aspect ratio 175/ "70" -13 it is an "80" series tire. So, the modern version of your size is 175/80-13

This is now getting interesting. I recently had a conversation with the technical services director of the hnis books, he told me that the best current radial tire is the 195/70R13 size. That is the same information that is on the conversion list in the 1995 November/December Star Magazine article at pp. 11-12. One key consideration is the number of revolutions perminute so as not to mess up the speedometer/odometer. The Star article indicates that the 6.70x13bias tire originally fitted to my car has the following standard characteristics: load index 82; aspect ratio 95; revs per mile 835; section width 6.70. (I understand all this except the aspect ratio.)
Does anyone know if there is any truth to the information that an original option was what was in European terms the 175R13 tubeless tire? Anyone know if this 1959 tubeless tire would have been a radial also, or was there such a tire then as a nonradial tubeless? On the 80 series tires you mention, what is the section width and revs per minute. Thanks much.

Further to my previous post. I looked at the Coker tire website. It clearly indicates that there was a 175R13 original option to the listed 6.70x13 tire. The service manual states that a tubless was optional, so I guess the R in the 175R13 indicated that the optional tire then was a tubeless radial. Does this sound right? Thanks.

I would listen to luke and chiragp. They both gave yout he right answer thaat the size you need for a proper fit, is 175/80r13.
Tirerack has excellent prices, and they wont steer you wrong with the tire. Give Luke a call, he will straighten you out. ![]() Alon

To see how different sized tires affect your speedo, go to http://www.paspeedo.com and play with the speedometer error calculator. Simply plug in your tire size and speedometer reading and you can see what the actual speed is. Try it out with the original 175 80 13 ("80" -thanks to chiragp & Luke), then try diffent sizes. You can get the speedo to almost zero error with different sizes.

195/70/13 has almost the same rolling circumfrence as the 175/80/13. The 195 offers more tread down on the road while having a lower aspect ratio. The size is correct if it fits your rims, or if you can find a tire in that size. Thats why I would recommend the 175/80/13.
Good Luck, Hope that clears evrything up.

The paspeedo.com site is really cool. Quite a variety of interesting services provided!
I was just wondering if I could actually use a 215-60-15 for the front, and 205-65-15 for the rear? My hunch is that this might be workable, but practically?
