129 Antenna?

Does anyone know where you can get an aftermarket power antenna for a 129 SL?

I've been looking around the internet and can't seemt to find one that will fit the SL and trying to find a used one is impossible it seems ...the car is a 1990 if that makes a difference.

Thank you,

Ron

Do you need the entire unit or just the mast?

Also, do you have the part number off the unit?

Do you realise that you can change the metal antenna itself without replacing the whole unit? I have just done this on my '93 as it occasionally got stuck upon retraction. Cost was only £20 so it's a very economical replacement - my last one was ten years old!!

If you are sure that you need a full replacement then I've seen one on eBay (UK). Why not check eBay for an OEM antenna first, don't even think about non OEMs as IMHO they are ALL crap!!

Ron,
The Host of this website sells parts. They carry the entire Hirshmann assembly for $98.

The board in the antenna is burned out and its also missing the hardware to attatch it to the qtr and seal out the water.

The ones that I've seen listed on the internet say with out seal, I think their talking about the parts I need to attach it to the fender.

I might have to call Mercedes and see how much the parts would be where it meets the fender, perhaps I can get a used one for a 300E and make it work, anyone know if thats possible?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron,

Call the host of the board.... Call 1-888-333-4642 (toll free in the US) and ask for Phil.

They sell the assembly and the seal. I'm sure he'll give you all the advice you need and cost for the New antenna is reasonable.

Anyone have any idea what the entire motor costs? I recently had my antenna replaced at a MB dealership bc it would not retract all the way, $150, afterwards it still did not retract and they said the motor was bad. Whether the antenna itself needed to be replaced was questionable.

They quoted me $800 for the motor and installataion, seemed high to me. Anyone know what these run for aftermarket and if it is a DIY job?

As noted in my earlier post the entire assembly is sold here for $98. Don't know about what it takes to replace though....some cars require the removal of a fender and other parts.
