Rebadging a 380sl?

I realize that the purists here don't like the idea of putting a 560sl badge on a 380. But I'm still wondering whether the stick-on 560 badge will cover the bolt holes left by a 380 badge? I don't have a 560, and would like one. But this is the best I can do for now.

Thanks for the info.

I have not tried doing what you propose, but I am very sure they will swap directly. Many cars I see had those badges swapped.

Thanks very much for the info.

As I'm not really familiar with the difference between the 560sl and the 500sl, which one would you rebadge it as if you had your choice, considering that the 500sl badge seems to have bolts that will fit into the holes left by the 380sl badge?

Unless I'm mistaken, they've been rebadging SLs since 1973.

Come to think of it, they might well have done so with the 113s as well.

If you are going to pretend, go big.
Get a SL600 badge.

How do you think one of these would look on a 350SL

Added a badge

Mine still has the 380SL badge, but I did add a badge to reflect the fact that it has been re-powered.

I win.

I don't know what they are, but I have 40 more of them than any other W107 in my 560SL and 380SL (I feel bad that the only REAL W107 600SL, with the V12 built by Roncallo, doesn't have one.

I still have the original badges, but I put these on to befuddle Mercedes owners . These are NOT fron a W129; that script is completely different. They are made with a dremel and some very fine tools, and will pass even very close inspection as seeming to be original.

A 560SL badge, which is put on with double-sided tape, WILL cover the holes. However, I would VERY STRONGLY recommend filling those holes first; otherwise, you will be very sorry in a few years, after the trunk rusts out. If you use a used badge, buy 3M tape; it's expensive but worth it.

By the way, this was a very common "upgrade" even in the 80's and 90's to 450's and 380's; I have seen 380's that were so complete in this upgrade (wheels, spoiler, third taillight, badge) that the only quick clues were the door handles on the outside and the lack of the recirculation switch on the inside (P.S. No one liked the 380's centigrade-based thermometer, either, and those were replaced also when the 560SL came out).
