about to do my first oil change
I plan to use Valvoline T6 (blue jug). Although this is diesel oil, it is spark rated so I think it is ok.
two quick questions- 1.does it take 8 quarts? 2.the oil filter is removed from the topside like a diesel? I plan to get the Hengst brand (cartridge style). I barely drive it so this oil change will be a yearly event

Get the filter kit from the dealer. It contains new o-ring and crush washers for the filter housing and the oil pan plug. Filter canister is removed from the bottom.

I think you probably mean Rotella T6, which should be a good choice because of its high zinc content for the cams/rockers. Might not be so good for your cat, but probably a worthy tradeoff.
Speaking of cams, I would advise you to pull the valve covers and have a look at the cams and particularly the oiler tubes. I have been on a mission to get a spare set of cams for my 380SL (from the junkyards) and I am stunned at how many of them have bad cams. I think the oiler tubes get gummed up over the years and the cams get dry and wear out. If you do take them off, be sure to buy new plastic holders - they are cheap and made for one time use.
