Valet Key from master key
Hi, Is it possible using the master key and a new key blank to make a valet key?
If any of you have a valet key and you place it next to the master key what differences do you see? Thanks for all of your help, Jack M |

AHHH. FOR EVERONES INFO. THE VALET KEY IS THE ROUND HEAD KEY AND IT DOES NOT HAVE A GROOVE DOWN THE CENTER OF THE BLADE. IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE KEY TO BE PUT INTO THE LOCK OF THE TRUNK AND GLOVEBOX. . SO IF YOU LOCK UP THE TRUNK AND GLOVEBOX WITH THE MASTER KEY AND GIVE THE ROUND HEAD KEY
TO THE VALET OR SOMEONE ELSE. THEY WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THOSE COMPARTMENTS. NOW TO GET A ROUND HEAD BLANK AND HAVE IT CUT AND SEE IT ALL OF THIS CHECKS OUT. P.S. I DON'T DO VALET EITHER. THANKS JACK M. |

the valet key is fatter, wider than the master key and won't even go in the slots for the trunk or glove box

So, will the valet key unlock the driver's side door, but NOT activate the vacuum system? Am I understanding this correctly?

The valet key simply will not fit into the glove box lock, console box lock, trunk lock, tailgate lock, and TE bed storage compartment lock. To foil the valet, one uses the regular key to lock the glove box/console box, and trunk/tailgate, and gives the valet the valet key. The valet key will fit in the ignition and will lock/unlock all doors via vacuum. If the valet tries to use the valet key to unlock the already locked by owner glove box/console box/trunk/tailgate, the key will not fit the lock to unlock it/them. |

But the trunk lock is on the vacuum system, is it not?

I've never even heard of a "fist" key. I don't understand the purpose of having that third type.

Gotcha. "Flat key" looked like "fist key" on my screen. I believe I have had several cars that came with a plastic "flat key" that you could carry in your wallet in case you lost your regular key.

Ok Everyone here is what I need to do to make this work.
This is on my 560 Sl 1986 1. Using Valet key in the door I lock up the car with the vacuum system. 2. Using Master key I insert it into the trunk cylinder and turn it to the right and remove it without turning it back to vertical. 3. I now unlock the car using the valet key the alarm does not sound when the door is opened. 4. Valet key can now be used to lock and unlock the door and to start the car. (The original goal.) 5. To unlock the trunk and all doors use the master key turn it all the way to the left and then back to vertical. 6. This does not appear to be what my book says but it is the only procedure that works and does not activate the alarm. Thanks for all of your assistance. Jack M. When I posted the above JPG it came from an early R129 that has an IR remote.
I forgot to mention that when I had my 1989 R107 the car came with an aftermarket IR remote alarm that I really liked a lot , especially when the top was down. I would exit the car, push the IR Remote and all the doors and compartments would lock and both windows would roll-up. When I entered the car, I pushed the IR and it simply unlocked the doors and compartments but I had to lower the windows manually. BTW, this entire aftermarket system could be disabled by the simple flick of a hidden switch if necessary. It also had a system that sensed if anyone attempted to brake a window. One of the features I currently like about my 2000 SL IR Door Locking System is if you are about 3-5" from the exterior IR driver door sensor and point and hold the door lock button it will raise the windows all the way up or to any position that you choose. Or you can leave them cracked on a hot day. Likewise you can roll the windows down while unlocking both doors but only in a close proximity. IR has it's limitation's in bright sunlight vs. a low lit garage. Sometimes it doesn't appear to work when in actuality the forces at be are interferring with the system. |
