Driving Lights

Hi I just got my 81 380sl on the road and attempted to put on the driving lights along with the headlights. To my surprise they worked, one of the few things that I have had that do work with this car. However can someone tell me how the switch is supposed to operate. When the headlights are on I pulled the switch out and the drivings lights came on, however there is no way to turn off the driving lights unless you turn off all the lights. Is this the correct way this operates? Or am I missing something. Seems a little dangerous if you want to shut off the bright driving lights that all the lights must be turned off (at least headlights). Thanks

That is the way it is designed to work - at least for my 81 300SD.

when you turn the headlights on and then pull out the switch it turns on the foglights and healights. If you have the headlights on and the foglights on and then you put the high beams on, it will turn off the foglights off.

On my car, you pull out the switch to turn on the driving lights and push it back in to shut them off. The headlights are unaffected.

My 81 300CD was the same, pull to activate, push in to deactivate. Headlights remained unaffected.
