R129: Front Subframe mount replacement - point me in the right direction

Hey guys,
I've been searching for a bit but have not found what i was looking for. I have a 99 SL 500 with the sports package. When i turn the car or go over uneven surfaces i get a very distinct pop/crack noise that i can actually feel through the floor boards.

When i had the car inspected before i bought it, they said the subframe bushings are worn out, i've also found this thread that says it could be bushings that are on the sway-bar have dried out. Has any body experienced this here, and if so what are the things to check for. I have plenty of experience working on volvos, but not so much on this sl.

thanks,
ZK

A 129 does not have a front subframe so either they mean the rear subframe or they are totally clueless. I have seen broken sway bar links cause a pop on lots of cars.

PS if you need any suspension used suspension parts or rear sub frame I have them all.

I will look at the report when i get to my car to see what they actually wrote. I think i remember them showing me some big bushings around the passenger footwells that looked cracked.

If you could tell me to look for the sway bar issue i would greatly appreciate it, is it the just the ends of the sway bars where they connect to the suspension?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated!!

ZK

Have a look at the rubber strut mount bushings ( located on the top of the struts ). They may not show cracking, but they wear and allow excessive strut movement.

I dont know if this will help you, but my 76 450sl (R107) made a VERY loud pop noise when I would turn a specific way...ended up being tie rods....
