Oil Change Procedure for 560SL? Filter Location?

Is there a detailed procedure (maybe with pics!) of oil change procedure on the 560SL or other car with 5.6L V8? I can't even find the filter LOL! I've done an oil change on my 300SD...it's a piece of cake. Got a feeling this filter is not gonna be a topside removal...

By the way, there is a lot more traffic over at "Diesel Discussion" than here on "SL Forum." I figure that is due to one of the following:
• There are a lot more diesels out there
• SLs are more problem free
• Diesel owners have more problems with their cars (mine has been virtually trouble-free...knock on wood)
• Diesel owners are more talkative

Guess I'll figure it out soon as I get more acquainted with my SL.

Thanks

The filter is in a canister on the right forward side of the engine. It is removed with a 17 mm socket. If you happen to still have a plastic undershield, you will have to drop the aft end of it to drain the oil and remove the filter.

I think there may be more discussion on the disel forums because

1) People are generally more unfamiliare with disels.

2) Most people who own them are trying to figure out how to make them go faster

3) There is probably a large veg oil group discussing how to make conversions.

One more filter question?

did you mean right forward as in passenger - and is it accessible from topside or under car?

Thanks

Underneath engine. Right front. Inside a canister. Prepare to get your hands dirty!

Oil capacity is 8.5 qts.

Oh...and SL's are problem-free. Everyone knows that!

You know it is real nice that the newer MB diesels have the filter on top. But trust me on this. NOTHING is a dirty as doing a diesel oil change even at 1500 mile intervals.

1500 Miles...Try after 1 mile?

It's hard to see 8 quarts of fresh Mobil 1 turn black that fast. But I've got a no mess system on the diesel...it involves a plastic grocery bag LOL! Filter topside helps a LOT!

Thanks for all the help on finding my SL's oil filter guys! I think this will not be a DIY oil change for me though. I'll just bring oil and a Mann filter to the local quick change and watch 'em like a hawk.
