R129 Tail Lights

Hello....

I have a 1998 SL500 and I would like to purchase the tail lights from the 2002 R129 body. Does anyone know where I can find these aftermarket?

Not sure I understand you. The last r129 facelift was 06/1998 and the last model produced was 07/2001. These models have SLK-style mirrors and "soft" all-red tail lights. If this is what you're after, there is a pair on UK e-bay right now. If you do a search under "SL" you should find them. 2002 SLs are all R230s and they are completely different in every way.

************************ has them though they do not appear on their website. I just ordered some from them about 2 months ago. I think I paid about $320.00 for the set.

Go there and request a free catalog. When you get it there is a whole section for the R129. Find the product code next to the picture/description in the catalog and enter it online and you can order them. At least that's what I did, or you could just call them/write them I guess.

Interesting point - do you know how much grilles cost? Mind you mine does have slight damage and I need to replace it.

I'm still in two minds about the 6 or 7 slat design.... I'm not going to change the bumpers so maybe it should stay in keeping with the elder style?

Is the 6 a drop in replacement?

Lea, if your grille is damaged you can get the iundividual rails rather than replace the whole thing. The top rail, which is full width, is about GBP80 and the other rails, which are half width, are about GBP40. I went through this on the parts computer with the parts lady at my local dealership and she was sure about it (Pippa at MB of Newcastle). Obviously, new rails may not match because they will be unblemished.
