Engine swap
I spotted a nice 1995 E320 with 41,000Km at a scrap yard with a very serious hit at the back. The rear bumber is in line with the rear doors. The front/sides/interior of the car are intact.
I was thinking of buying this car (for about $3,000) and transfer everything I could into my aging 1989 260E. (engine, transmission, all engine accessoiries (A/C compressor, alternator, rad, etc. etc.) interior (seats, door panels, carpets etc). My 1989 has a perfect body with original paint and absolutely no rust. What do you think? JackD |

Check out this post It seems that the computer will be your main problem. Do a few searches on this and you may unearth some more vital info. Good luck and tell us what happens.

The computer and the fuel injection system would come from the donor car. Everything is there.
Or would it be easier to cut-off both cars in the middle and weld back the rear end from my 260E to the 1995 front end? ????? JackD |

If the donor car is complete, and you transfer everything over, I see no problem why it wouldn't work.

JackD this is what i want to do with my car as you may have seen from the link, i don't understand why more people haven't attempted this conversion i think it is a fantastic idea. I plan on doing a little work on my engine whie it is out of the car aswell, just to try and raise the peak power to about 250hp maybe 350hp if i do a forced induction, i don't see how it can be so hard, these merc motors are very strong, and they are very well built coming out with lots of power initially.
tell me of your plans because i am interested in going ahead with this plan for myself as soon as the finances come through.

That is a great idea. I dont think it will be that hard. My friend with a 190E 2.6, same engine you have did it, and it made it way faster, I mean it's a great upgrade. $3k for the running gear is worth it. See if the engine cranks over and stuff. My friend spent about 1k putting his engine in, plus about 50 hours. But thats because he had to buy the factory harness which you will already have. There is some extensive wiring, but if you have both engine wiring manuals you will be in good shape. If you didnt live so far away he would do it, unless youd like to drive to Arizona.

yeah thats right, omega, it can't be to hard to do, My friends and I are good with wiring and have experience with pulling in and out motors, the only things I lack are the wiring and mechanical manuals which i will have to buy.
