Hello all!
Earlier today I stopped by my friends place to chat for a bit and catch up on the latest news. There is was..one of 25 CLK GTR's...unbelieveable! The beauty, the design, the technology, the craftsmanship...all in one piece, and with four (huge) tires. Just the perfect stainless steel welding job on the front suspension left me in awe...it must've taken the guy 3-4 hours just for one side! This isn't a car...its more than a racecar in sheeps clothing...its a work of art. There could've been 3 naked women dancing around the shop, and I wouldn't have noticed them or cared...well unless one of 'em got into the car anyway, then I suppose I would. I haven't met the guy that owns it, he is supposed to pick it up tomorrow, whoever he is, he is one lucky guy. Same goes for my mechanic...I would think it a priviledge to work on that, but also nervewracking...after all, all day long people see it and want to look at it...I think he ought to get one of those perimeter fence things like at the bank, just in case. And even then, God forbid, something should touch the (perfect paint job) body, and leave a mark or blemish of some sort. Wish I had my camera with me then. I just saw it again today...pricetag $1.6 million...is that right? Supposedly its the only one in the states. Damn am I lucky...gotta get some pics! You guys wanna see some? I just had to tell y'all about this. -Larry [This message has been edited by Larry Delor (edited 09-27-2000).] |

Please do so, Larry. Take pics of it. 1.6 million seems about right as if that car is street legal in US, it needed to go some changes to make it so, and the cost of converting everything to US spec is costly. That's why McLaren F1 priced a tick under 1 million when new(in England), but sale for 1.3 million in US.

Here is a side view. The tires are Bridgestone. 18 inch I think. Its a rather large (wide) pic. I hope y'all don't mind.
ummm the HTML is off, and I don't know how to change that, so here's a link instead. Looks like I figured it out. [This message has been edited by Larry Delor (edited 09-29-2000).] [This message has been edited by Larry Delor (edited 09-29-2000).] |

Here's another one, from the front.
I happen to see it without most of its clothing for the two days before. Its all carbonfiber, and really thin too! [This message has been edited by Larry Delor (edited 09-29-2000).] |

Larry, you truly are lucky to see one of those.
I saw one in France drive right past me. The noise was stunning. Did you mechanic friend fire it up for you? Loud is not the word!!!! Bri ------------------ Brian Drought 1991 300CE 2000 A170-CDI http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~drought/ ICQ: 2180069 |

Interesting that it has a hood ornament, not the star in the grill like SL's, SEC's, etc.

BTW, Larry, is that car "legalized" for US?? Or the owner simply bought it for his/her own collection?? Andy Kuo ------------------

As far as I can tell it is legalized. It does, however have a spare set of mufflers without the 3-way cat. The two mufflers a about 30 inches in lenght and about oval shaped approximately 18"x12". The sound of the exhaust is not overly loud, it doesn't sound like a pretentious hot rod, it has a rumble that is not too low ptiched, nor too high, but most of all when you hear it, it commands attention, it says without a doubt: "I am power...(there aint no way you are ever, ever, gonna kick my ass...ever.) In short, it is the finest symphony you will ever hear. All exhaust pipes are wrapped in foil. There are at least two auxiliary fans that ventilate the engine compartment. As you can see in one of the first pics, the air intake is just above the windshield...this is ducted to the rear, into a large chamber...I was told this is to reduce windnoise (drone), from all the air being sucked in. In this pic, you'll see a shot if the interior. Note that the steering wheel has to be removed to get in or out of the car. There are complete harnesses, to keep you from sliding around (which apparently can be a problem due to the extremely responsive steering. Speaking of which, it also has a "swingdampener" that is adjustable...simplified, it is a flat steel bar that can be rotated up to 90° for either a more flexible, or stiffer ride. The ride I am told is smoother than most anticipate...apparently driving over a speedbump is comparable to a luxury car. There are two side panels, (one behind each door), the one is for fuel, the other reminds me of something you see on a sci-fi movie...diagnostic plug and lights and things. There is a battery charger included (all personalized and numbered) that doubles as some sort of diagnostic eguipment also. Enjoy! |

While looking at the pic above, I noticed the foot pedals. Here is a somewhat fuzzy close-up, but I think you can see that they are definatly no-nonsense.
