Amen to that. Don't waste your money on bulbs until you get Euro lights. THEN get good bulbs! Both the Philips and Sylvania +50's are excellent. Skip the Hellas. Powerbulbs.com has the +50's, also Dan Stern (lighting.mbz.org) has them as well. I have 500E Euro lights in both my cars, one has relays and massive Philips Rally bulbs (130/90w). It helps keep my hood & bumper clean as bugs get vaporized before they make contact!
![]() ![]() ![]() FYI, there was an extensive thread on this subject months back, titled something about PIAA SuperWhites being crap. There were links to some testing on the +5 bulbs and the Vision Plus and SilverStars were top dogs, hands down. HTH, |

Why would you skip the hella's. I have them,on my E the eurohella's they kick but.
I guess it just preference and the way you set your lighting up. But my hella's light the dark canyons every day for me.

The Hella headlamp assemblies are awesome (I got mine from PUMA). But some testing of various bulb types & manufacturers showed that Hella bulbs were lower performers than you'd think, which surprised me. The Philips and Osram/Sylvania were the best.

my superwhite bulbs are $12.99 a pair and add $5 for s&h
no ricey blue and they include 1 year warranty from ANY burn outs. I've sold a couple to some benz owners here and bnzsport! ![]() but in my car I use 8000K xenons and euro-spec headlamps (I sell those too) brighter than the sun itself! j/k |

AutoExpress has new test results up for 2003. As before, PIAA is horrendously overpriced & has only mediocre performance, and the Philips & Osram "premium" stuff is top notch. Read for yourself:
Standard bulbs: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product_test/product_test_story.php?id=39920 Plus 30 bulbs: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product_test/product_test_story.php?id=39919 Plus 50 bulbs: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/product_test/product_test_story.php?id=39917 Enjoy... |

Save up and get a set of HID's .
Thats the only way to go if you plan on upgrading your lighting.

And here's why NOT to convert to HID unless you have a late model MB where you can get factory HID lights, like the W210 for example:
http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html Just because you *think* it is better, doesn't mean it is... read the last paragraph carefully at that link above... ![]() |

Oh yeah, I have read that article a gew times before I decided to follow through with my HID project. Well I have my bulbs aimed correctly and I went as far as fabricating my own glare shields to help keep the light focused and not glare oncoming traffic. There are a lot of HID retrofits here in Miami, I see a lot of misaligned bulbs with tons of glare. The light barely even hits the ground on some of these cars. All that useless light blinds oncoming drivers. I have very little glare on my 300E. It took a while to adjust the light pattern, but my project was successful.
