Post Mercedes Tuners Guide

Run, don't walk, to your nearest magazine vendor a pick up the October 2002 issue of Mercedes Enthusiast.

Included is a performance guide that features these tuners: Brabus, Kleemann, AMG, Carlsson, MKB, Fab Design, Lorinser, Mosselman, Vath, Renntech, Opera, Tuner GP and Zeemax.

See Mosselman's conversion of a 300CE into a Group C-style racer with 500E front fenders

Read about MKB (founded by Erhard Melcher of AMG) who, after years of building hot Mercedes engines for other tuner companies, has decided to market their products directly to enthusiasts.

Discover Vath Motorentechnik who, unlike most other tuner companies, creates go-fast parts for older Mercedes cars as well as the newest models.

The magazine itself gives more details on the new E55 AMG with a less powerful 476bhp version of the SL55 engine...wonder why M-B did that?

Also featured is the new twin-turbocharged 5.5 liter V12 engine (borrowed from Maybach) in the S600 and a buyer's guide to the W124 E-Class coupes and cabriolets. WOW!

I know this thread's a bit old...

but that issue isn't on the stands anymore...there's a newer one out. And it's probably already been covered too. If you're in the ATL area, you can find it at Border's in Buckhead. Maybe some of the Border's in other towns can get it for you. Pretty neat...but not mear as much fun as those $25.00 japanes magazines!

I have this issue. The performance section is a supplement. This edition flew of the shelves. There were only three left when I picked mine up. Some great quotes in there about the performance options. Here is one....

"...And then you flex your foot. Still no drama. But by God are you travelling. Scenery melds into blurred streaks of green and grey and the rush of air being sucked in by the supercharger is the only clue to the brute force being channeled through those huge tires. Reality kicks in and your foot moves to the brake pedal and, as quickly as it is dished out, that mighty performance is reigned in and controlled. Again, no drama, no fuss - just applied force in exactly the right measure"

These shipping and foreign currency conversions are not cheap, are they? I just bought into a year subscription + 2 iback issues. It costed like $100 more than, Benzo and The Star subscription combined.

Was the back issue in October worth it? How many pages of the supplement are there about the tuners?

These and many other UK magazines are available at Border's. However, they don't carry the Japanese magazines that allejdmb wrote about.

Those of you in the SF Bay Area, MB magazines are in the magazine store in Japan Town.
