M104 turbo, mapping and ecu limitations

Hi there.

Newbie here and been wanting to ask a question which may have been covered before so apologise if it has..

I have recently managed to obtain a low mileage m104 engine with ecu, loom and transmission and plan to turbo it over the summer.

Mechanically i don't see any issues, as im not bad with mechanical work, however i wondered what limitations does the stock ecu have when it comes to mapping after been fitted with the turbo, will the car run on a stock ecu system?

My plan is to have the mechanical side done by myself then hand it over to a mapping specialist however i wondered at what point do i need to look at stand alone ecu's.

Would the car run up to a certain point before requiring stand alone management? My thoughts are if i can do the mechanical work and have the car running i can then hand it over to a specialist to complete the mapping and possible installation of a stand alone if needed past a certain bhp.

Best way would be a MAF-to-MAP conversion on the stock ECU, doable with a piggyback

There is no point to play with piggipack or stock ecu, standalones are rather cheap and for few flashes are already in standalone budget. Ms2 or go full diy with speeduino.
For my understanding that old stock ecu isint that tuner friendly, u need obd2 type ecu to have easy reflashing possibilities.

Ecumaster, maxxecu, haltech, vems, ms, list goes on. Some more affordable, some less.
Eccumaster would be good choice.

My M104 is a 99 hfm. easist way for me would be add two injector before throttle body, let a a along ecu to fire them with rpm sensing. cheap way ,and use procharger instead.

Biggest problem isint fuel, if u cant retard ignition according to boost then eventually u have some major engine failure. Doesent matter if u use turbo or charger.
In super low boost it might work to some extent, but whats the point. M104 takes with ease 100hp per rod.
With standalone u have overboost protection, knock control.
