Wire diagrams/pinouts
I am looking for a wiring diagram and pin-out for the abs/esc system for a 2001 E55. When I track the car, or just simply want to "play" a bit, it is getting old to have to physically unplug the system at the abs module.
I want to wire up a circuit that I can use inside the car to completely disable the traction control while keeping the abs and esc functioning. Thank you in advance. |

You are not going to be able to get rid of traction control independently from wiring. You would have to block the tq reduction message on the CAN bus that is telling the ME to reduce output.
So what you would want to do is identify the message on the CAN bus and then block this specific data while letting the rest through. You would need a CAN to CAN router and write the code for this function. |

Ah, I was fearing this. That is above and beyond my talent. I can turn wrenches on anything and do most electrical, but programming is not my thing.
I am contemplating now, putting a switch/relay setup to the power input(s) at the abs unit. If I can cut all power here (just like unplugging the unit) I would still obtain my goal, the temporary warning lights don't bother me as they go off as soon as it's plugged back in. |

Over in the diesel section someone ran a late 90's E300 diesel ( E 320 W 210 body ) on a 4 wheel dyno and had ASR kick in even though the ASR off button was pressed. There is a wire to jumper in the 38 pin underhood diag box that shuts off ASR but I have no idea if it shuts off ABS.

Actually I forgot. What you can do is hit the esp off button and then trip the emergency brake switch. This will shut down traction control. I do not know if abs is effected but give it a try.

A work around I through of would be to intercept the rear wheel speed sensors and replace it with the signal from the front while the throttle is applied over some %. This would keep the ASR happy.
When the throttle is below some % and brakes applied, the rear sensors would again talk to the ABS keeping it happy. I don't know if this will work with other models, it looks to be for a W210 diesel ( E300 ) bit I think the 38 pin diag port is universal. Here is the diesel post, the PDF says nothing about everything shutting down but it is easy to test. This thread: Dynamometer Test Confusion and Frustration See Post 11 WIS says to connect pin 1+6 at the 38-pin diagnostic port under the hood. See attached PDF. Thank you everyone! I am glad I signed up here, it would take me forever to "trouble shoot" this solo. I am hoping to get to the drag strip once more this season and try to knock a few tenths off my 1/4 time. Not my ideal arena but its affordable, close by, and I can do 100+ legally lol.
