What does the M103 redline at?

Can anyone tell me the the engine from the 300E redlines at. I would like to know for both 12V and 24V engines. I have heard that the 12V redlines at 6000 and the 24V at 7000. Is this true?

Yes, however the 24V engine is a M104 motor, not M103.

Actually i think the M103 redlines at like 6200rpms, or atleast mine does. RPM limiter stops it just above redline, probably close to 6300 or so.

The book says 6450 rpm....Most cars, have the redline painted a lil lower, but if u push it in the red...it will go until u let the car upshift right before the limit.

Mine spins to an indicated 6,500 on the 2-3 upshift. Beat on 'em, boys-they like it

My 500E also spins to 6,300 (6k RPM Redline) on the 1-2 and the 2-3. 3-4 happens at 6k, but it'll pull to 6,300 in top gear (sorry to digress )

Don't be afraid-you're not grenade the engine, more likely a smog pump, alternator or A/C compressor

Take a look at the fuel pump relay. Mine said 6350rpm. It cuts off the fuel pump at that rpm. Like someone else said, they love to rev. My 5 speed feels great in the lower gears!

According to the service manual, the redline is at 6350 ± 50.
