Ignition/Fuel maps M104 2.8/3.2
Hello there!
My first post here. I want to install a Megasquirt on my stock 2.8l M104 and so I am currently looking for ignition and fuel maps. Anybody here who already did such a conversion? Or who could help me out with some basic ignition/fuel/load/RPM data read out of HFMScan? I haven't got the ECU.dat and due to the broken cable harness I can only rev to 4000 RPM ... Would be marvelous if anybody here could help me. |

Here are the VE/Spark maps that I am running.
The VE map is my own, the spark map comes from Joreto. My car is NA only at this point so if you want to boost the engine you'll have to sweet talk Joreto for his or extrapolate higher VE's from my map. Anywho, VE (M104.990): Spark: M104.980:

If you are installing on a stock engine, I'd be much more concerned about how you are going to deal with the DBW throttle. Maps are easy, and a borrowed map at best will only be a compromise on your install. The registered version of Tuner Studio makes it easy to tune a VE map to the engine. So spend the money and register it, its not much. Spark map tuning is ideally done on a dyno, but I've managed a pretty good spark map without dynoing. FWIW, I run a lot of boost, only have crappy 91 octane gas, and no knock detection other than my ears.
Have you decided what version of MS you are going to run? What about ignition hardware... I prefer the OE hardware but in your instance 3 coils in wasted spark may not be the easiest. Dont let that deter you, if you plan to go that route. Its definately do-able, just not the go-to plug and play solution.

I will only use the throttle sensor, not the whole idle control. It's just a first step - I want to install individual throttle bodies later. I already got a KDFI 1.4, a MS2 version with MSExtra, which has four ignition drivers. I hope the whole OEM hardware stuff like the sensors and the coils will work with my MS.

Should be able to use all the stock sensors, excepting the throttle and MAF. If you want to use MAF then I don't think the M/B sensor is supported but you could easily swap for a 0-5V style MAF, or just stay with S/D without MAF. It may be prudent to search the MS forums about ITB setups and see whether having a MAF helps tuning. I know a lot of guys tear their hair out tuning ITBs on S/D.
You should also be able to drive the stock coils with the BIP 373 drivers, no problem. With the drivers installed and outputs configured the ignition should be pretty easy. I use a 60-2 M/B flywheel with a M/B crank sensor and it works fine. I never have any sync loss issues. I built the tach out circuit and it drives my factory tach just fine. The MS2 Extra should be able to control the cam and intake flap with a bit of extra circuitry. Are you building your MS or buying a pre-fab?

The stock MAF is in fact a 0-5V non-digital MAF. I thought about measuring the output of the original MAF while driving on full throttle in fifth gear from 700 to maximum RPM and approximate an own curve relying on the theoretically needed mass of air and the voltage. The intake way should be long enough to sufficiently damp the signal. Or I just send that thing to somebody with a flow bench.
I don't know yet if I'll swap to alpha-n or MAP when I got my planned ITBs on. MAF is just too nice. I already got a pre-fab MS2. I bought a used throttle body out of a W140 S320 and measured the pins for the disk resistor. Works on my test table with my self-built harness. |

What do you want to say me? I should use a nitrous kit? I cannot do that for legal reasons. Also, I want to use this car for competitions later on and I know none here that allow modifications like NA-to-turbo, nitrous or water injection.

as said above a registered tunerstudio and wideband will tune the ve quit good ,
the m104 is a bit similar to m111 and from the same era so i recommend checking the original wiring harness first (know problem for merc) as mine was in bad shape scratch which ended up in building new wiring harness from s,megasquirt is great and you won't regret it ,good luck in your build

That is an old map I used to run. Tonight I'll post the one I currently use (made 298rwhp/427nm @ 0.7bar on a Mainline Dyno) .
