Triple weber 40's on m103?
Just wondering if this would even be possible?
I got the idea from the older 911's that had the two weber (triples) on each side of the engine and they make that engine sound so freakin cool. I know there would have to be a custom intake manifold made up. But would there be an interference with the electrical system or ecu by deleting the CIS system? Interested to hear your input. |

You think the CIS-E is problematic ...try to live with Webers.. My experience is with a 1966 Aston Martin DB-6 Vantage spec race engine with triple Weber 45DCOE's... Great for a racing engine, but not so good for a street car. No thermostatic controlled choke, they use an enrichment lever to start. The Weber intake bells on the DB-6 fit into a sheet metal airbox with a drain in it... The drain is in the box to let the raw gas flow out on startup. Did I mention the flame arrestors which snuff out the fires on startup? It's difficult to maintain an idle until the engine comes up to operating temp and you can cut off the enrichment circuit. Until then black smoke from the tail pipes !!! Not to mention keeping them balanced as each carb feeds two cylinders... Almost as quirky as balancing triple SU's on a 3.8L Jag using a stethoscope... ![]()

If you want a horny sounding m103, you could use individual motorbike carbs from a honda fireblade or yamaha r1. There have been a few cosworth 190's converted this way and they sound awesome!
We have a company over here called "Bogg brothers" who will custom build a aluminium manifold to mate bike carbs to any engine you like, and bike carbs dont go out of tune like normal carbs. Easy conversion on the cis-e cars but not on hfm.

It won't interfere with the CIS electrics if you remove the Kjet fuel meter housing, fuel distributor and injectors. You will get a CEL but your ignition, instrument cluster and cruise control will still work. That said, go EFI or go home.

How can the r1 carbs flow enough fuel for a m102, which is around 2000cc and the r1 is only 1000cc? |

Because an R1 makes something like 180hp and revs over 10000rpm. So it needs significant fuel and air flow.

Webers on a Merc
For what it is worth here is a write-up we did a few years ago on Webers. Basically not cost effective to do correctly, ie not worth the effort.

^ as usual, that is a well worded and factual report by a real expert.
good to note his comment about the std merc ignition being useless for finding power by tuning, and that obviously applies to an efi convertion, tuning spark is the way to find power above the 315-330 celing that the merc tt will make, because feuling is only half the story. and attaking my spelling wont change that fact...

I've lived with Dual Weber 44's on a daily driven Volkswagen. Triple Webers would make me wanna shoot myself. EFI > Carb for anything newer than 1985, unless you want to do it just to do it.

Surely you don't mean Mikuni's. I've been through many on my Yamaha WR450, Suzuki DR350, Honda CR125R and others. They're pure rubbish, and the way they leak, always have a fire extinguisher handy!

bike carbs
The yamaha r1 or honda fireblade carbs are the most commonly used for these conversions, but you can use any bike carbs you like so long as you can get them jetted correctly.
