Thumbs up Gas Mileage Improvement !

When I got my new to me car,(95-E420) the first thing
I did is monitor my gas mileage.I'm kind of disappointed
of the results.I used to get 15-16 1/2-city and 22-23 mpg.
a/c off.Another thing that concerned me is the eng.temps.
At 65.F the temp goes to 105.F in a stop and go situation,
so I ventured a little bit.I gap the plugs from 32mm-40mm.
At 40-good starting, good idling but no highway grunt.
At 38-good starting, good idling but the power is like at 32.
The best for my car is 36mm.silky smooth idling, good starting.
very good highway passing power. To deal w/the warm temps,
I added,watter wetter on a 50-50 mixture of H2/0 and MB
anti freeze.Lastly,installed Jim F's "Cool Harness".What a
difference little things can do.My engine never saw 100 anymore.
Gas mileage now is.17-18+ city the best in a highway is 25+.
Driving habbits is the same and same brand and grade of
gasoline.

Could it be the plug gap? The Watter Wetter?
The Cool Harness or The cool weather temperature?
Anyway,I'm a happy camper.

Right now, the temp is about 2mm.above 80c.
same at highway speed. It only goes up at
about 95c when I got stock in traffic. That's
when the aux.fan kicks in.

The W210s run on a higher than 124/126s running temperature. Its quite normal one you are orientated with the characteristics of the engine management system.

The fuel consumption is a little high too, compared to the less powerful engines.

I have heard of a fuel regulator in the market that claims to be able to control and save on the fuel supply. But I'm not sure if anyone would want one installed in their MBs. I certainly won't. It is quite popular amongst the Japanese models to go around town looking for something to clamp on their fuel economy.

Its an adjustable fuel regulator.
they use it esp.if the car has been
turbo charged or highly modified,to
compensate for fuel starvation at high
rpm.to avoid pinging.I don't think its a fuel
economizer.

MPG

Clauser. Dont mess with your fuel system . what are you looking for a yugo. Remember you have a V8 under the hood.
What you did so far is perfect. City driving will kill it. My 500E I get about 300 miles to a tankful weekly on city driving.
What Im going to be doing is installing a oil cooler. This will make my engine run cooler who knows may even increase my MPG if it doesn't I'm not worried about it.
