Koenig Supercharger Sale for W140 S500 / 500E
OK, for all you "Men of Action" out there, Koenig of Germany is having a sale on Superchargers w/intercooler for the M119 5.0 liter engine in the W140.
The spec's are roughly; "331 KW/440PS/680 NM 0 - 100 km/h 4,9 sex. 0 - 200 km/h 14,8 sec. standing 1/4 mile = 14,8 sec. top speed 300 km/h" or 443 hp and 502 lbf. for the W140 S500. This is the same kit they sell for the 500E I believe (same engine) and could probably be made to work with the 400E very easily! The sale is a 30% savings, from $13,300 US to $9,200 US for a uninstalled kit, not a bad deal considering Koenig has one of the most reasonable kits out there for the M119 engine, if not the only kit out there. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the link, http://www.koenig-specials.com/, then click on "Specials" on the left. More details are available on the Mercedes link. No idea when the sale ends so check it out soon if you are interested. Here is the info for the 500E/E500, http://www.koenig-specials.com/side_news/supercharge_tabellen/sk_mercedes.htm. Or click on "News" and then "Engine Tuning" for the pop-up window. |

Is there space to mount the supercharger in the E500? It is extremelly tight in there.

I would think that within the "V" of the M119's V8 one could do a supercharger/intake manifold/intercooler combo similar to the Kleeman supercharges for the new V8.

without a doubt that is a nice system and damn better be for the $9200 that us big body owners would have to pay the BS about that is that the domestics here only pay about $4000 for theres maybe that a company here should try to build one.

For those members in Europe Koenig in Germany will perform the installation of the supercharger for a hefty 18000 USD. If you buy the kit and install it in other than a Koenig approved specialist there will be no warranty.
For me in Greece I will have to take the car to Germany. Are there any members with supercharged engines? Is it worth it? and would the supercharger effect the reliability of the engine? |

To my knowledge, no 500E owners here at this site have added a supercharger to their car. A few 6.0 liter conversions, but that's it. I suspect that quite a few of us have secretly yearned for more power out of the 5.0 liter engine and the supercharger seems to be one of the best alternatives.
But at the tune of $18k US that's a wee bit steep for me! ![]() "Is it worth it?" Depends on what you want. A supercharger should not greatly reduce the longevity of the engine, the kit offer by Koenig is rated at 8 psi I believe and that is not to aggressive as far as superchargers go. The more psi, the more potential to do damage due to unwanted detonation. But as far as wearing out the car faster?? Depends on how heavy your right foot is. ![]() I agree with black500, it would be nice if someone would do a kit for our 500E/E500's and SL500's out there to the tune of actual hardware cost and not a ton of "developmental" hours added in. But profit motivates people to work, and I do not see this as a profitable project due to a low number of kits being potentially sold. |

I did a search on Mercedes M119 engines, and found out that the M119 was turbocharged in the 90's for Mercedes CLR race cars, with good results and reliability.
Check it out at: http://www.autoworld.com/news/Mercedes/LeMans.htm Could this be the motor? Can't tell if it's a V6 or V8 from the exhaust headers. . . ![]() BTW, here's a poster of the M119 engine. I'd love to find this poster but not at $150/each! Anyone got a source for it? :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E ![]() |

The M119 5.0 liter was also in the 89' Le Mans winning Sauber C9 as a twin turbo motor.
Now...., anyone have the part number for the turbo's? |

It looks like the M119 V8 is probably only making 30-40% of its capable HP & torque.
Maybe similar to the M100 V8 which enlarged to 7-liters and with the proper fuel-managment & intake/exhaust headers can get up to 600HP (DIN) normally-aspirated! :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E Check it out at: http://www.mbgrand600.com/ARTICLES/300SEL63.html ![]() ![]() |

Even at the sale price, that's rediculously expensive for what you get. I can tell by looking at the s/c that it's manufactured for them by Vortech Engineering. The intercooled kits they sell for US cars and trucks sell for under $4500 including the intercooler/aftercooler, ducting, ignition, fuel pump, and computer chip.
With $9K, you could fab a turbo setup that would run way more boost than that kit. Heck, you can get a nitrous kit with a bottle blanket and purge valve for under $1200. I'm running 9lbs of boost on a Powerdyne s/c on my Chevy truck and it only set me back $3k including the fuel pump and ignition. It's not intercooled though. Fortunately for me, I can use the $4K kit on my '75 450SE since I have a small block Ford conversion in it. I didn't do the swap myself but I'm going to replace the tired 302 with a 351W next year. While I'm at it I'm considering getting several sets of motor mounts made and selling the kits since I get so many e-mails about it. ![]() ![]() |

I would imagine a small number of Tuner Shops nation wide should be able to create a kit with quality parts such as a Vortech or Powerdyne supercharger from scratch, without costing $18+k.
What might justify some of the high cost of kits available for Mercedes is the expense of modifing the electronic brains of the car or the chips for Engine Management. |

I do not know the specifics of the ECU on the 500E, but with any car that has an ECU that chases a lambda value, you can add a blower by just insatlling a rising rate FMU. At worst, you might have to upgrade the injectors. For $18K, you should expect a fully custom fabricated turbo system with a Motec engine management system. I paid a bit less than that for a fully custom system on my NSX with Motec M4 and air-to-liquid intercooler. $18K for a centrifical blower kit from a manufacturer is a joke. Stllen makes a kit for the same price and I think they are on crack to think anyone would pay that much. for comparison, the Kleemann kit (also over priced) is $14K and it uses a twin-screw blower which is much more expensive than the Vortec. |
