wheel theft

Hi, just a warning. Here in Philadelphia there have been a rash of wheel thefts of high end rims and tires. A guy was caught by police and in his possession was this new Universal Socket wrench as seen on TV. The wrench works with the use of self adjusting pens (54 pins) that will fit anything from 1/4 inch to an 3/4 inch, or 7 to 19 MM, I beleive. It will fit over wheel locks, lug nuts, stripped nuts, wing nuts, hex nuts, rusted bolts or nuts, anything of that nature, etc. As advertised, "guarenteed not to strip and will not slip" Just a warning, nothing is ever secure anymore.

Locking nuts are no problem. I was talking to my friend at his locksmith shop the other day and he made a joke about how he could steal my wheels if he wanted. I said no way because I have locking studs and he showed me a kit he has for people who lose their locking nuts/studs key. Its a metal piece that cups over the head and the rubber inside grips it and then you turn it and it unscrews it off. Its really simple.

wheel theft

Hi, I saw those wheel locks you were mentioning YAL, they seem OK. It appears that they turn if you try to take them off without the key thereby defeating any attempts to steal the wheel. I've never seen them but they look formidable. In theroy this should work. The Gator grip will however fit over anything up to 19MM I beleive, so these are still in the ball park. Only thing I don't like the sound of is the palstic interior. This is supposed to be a security item, make it all steel, gee wiz!! DMT FAN is correct in that most garages have kits to take wheel locks off cars when the key is lost. They are a little bit more expensive than the average street thef wants to spend. The Gator Grip kit is only $19.95, down by then bucks since introduction approximately three months ago. I expect discount store will be selling them for lots less real soon. The cost makes it cost effective for a thef to purchase and see a profitable return on his investment, cheers!

Thats great...paying high end prices and having some guy steal them... I guess they should make a new product which shocks the hell out of the person if he touched the wheels...Hehe
