2.5-16 conversion.

Has anyone done the 2.5-16 conversion to their 190 16 valve from Bekkers Import? Can you give me an insight as to the performance increase? Fuel mileage? Driveability? Thanks, Joe

Joe, my uncle did it to his car...it has 235 horses now...its fast as hell and he gets 29 MPG. It is so worth it and I cannot believe more people have done it. The tranny on those cars can handle 300hp so your good on that end. Do it, you will love how damn fast your car is....BUT make sure you do a brake upgrade or you might end up hitting something.

Jay: Can you ask your uncle if the car is still running the stock rear gears? The 235 hp's can turn a smaller rear that came on the euro 16 valve. What, if any, modifications were done to the car? Exhaust? Clutch? I really want to know this because I am considering doint this to my 190. The original motor has 115,000 miles and running strong but I can feel it straining under the cars 3100 lbs. Please ask your uncle to answer this post if he can. Joe

For the money, why not just get a turbo? There are kits out there. I think with the proper tuning and EFI, it would be crazy, but exotic.

PS,

I am out of a job for a couple of months and would love to do either job for you......!

My uncle has no cat. He had it removed.....all the power gets to the pavement. But when he starts the car the computer is wating for the cat to send it a signal....so at start its a LITTLE rough. After you give it gas it calms down. Hes running a Remus rear. Benzmac a stroker kit is basically a NEW engine....a turbo is a engine KILLER.... My uncle says hes running stock gears , something close to 3:1. The clutch is a twin mass? Other than that hes got enhanced 320 brakes with cross drilled rotors front and back, he reccomends you do a brake upgrade. Swaybars off the S class, a strut tower brace, Koni front shocks, bilstine sport rears, and 17 inch AMG wheels w/ 215 tires...they do not rub. What elese do you need to know?

Any chance he can email me pics of the engine bay, and a whole car shot from a few different angles? I am currently running a stock rear muffler and a removed resonator. I think it sounds much better than the Remus I had. It rusted up here in the salty roads. I have a complete Bosal stock replacement cat section, center resonator, and rear muffler I am thinking of installing in the car. I know it will lose its " voice". I am still thinking about installing the new exhaust though. Thanks for all your info. Tell your uncle that he has quite a car now. Has he taken it down the quarter mile? My best time was a 16.8 at 84 mph. I only did it a few times, I dont want to break anything in the car. Thanks, Joe

Joe-

Be sure to keep us posted on your progress, love to hear what you end up doing. I agree with 'engine killer' philosophy. A turbo would be great, but not for my 135k daily flogger. I'm curious to know how much damage to the wallet the 2.5 conversion is, installed. Any thoughts from your uncle, Jay? 235 horses is great power for an already fast car. Awesome. Good luck, Joe!

Not gonna do anything anymore

I decided to keep the 16 valve stock. I bought a Honda Civic that I am going to make a hybrid with an acura gsr drivetrain. Thanks for all your answers.
The 16 valve has been retired from daily driver status.
