Brembo Big Brake Kit w124
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had added a big brake kit to their w124 and any potential problems that may occur. |

question? why do you need to change your brakes to brembo when the existing break system of mercedes benz is good enough even on an S600 with over 46o BHP?

The reason I was thinking about itwas because I
have a 1990 300CE-24v which is meant to be 217hp. After I do some mods I'll be pumping out about 350hp + and maybe as much as 450hp in the future. Do you think the stock kit willbe upto the job ? What about on track days ? |

you'll obviously need rim clearence. But yeah, why? I could understand if you have a 95 e500 or e60 AMG. but for an e420, 320 or 300e??

you can try out your brakes performance and data testing on a speed brake testing machine, look for a shop that has one (normally its the dealership or the car manufacturing plant who have this equiptment) then you'll know how much load and stopping distance you'll get with your existing break performance vesus your engine power, another alternative is to purchase a good ceramic brake pad.

A 500E is 350hp or so and has upgraded brakes to compensate. I'm going to running at something nearer 400HP nearly 85% more than stock performance of my 300CE. I figured I would need similar increase in stopping power. Unless the brakes are good for that sort of power and just update the pads. |

Perhaps it depends on the year, but my 93 300E has dual piston calipers on the front...

Just upgrading with stock parts might be good enough. |

I don't know, I guess it seems like a waste imo.

Problems is just clearance, get big wheels you're good to go assuming the "kit" is designed for the car. Someone said something about the SL600 brakes, thats another option, they're pretty big and somebody on here can tell you what mods need doing. The front 300CE brakes are pretty *****in though, might move the fronts to the back, and then get some bigger front ones-500E or SL600's. I don't know what kind of price you can get the brembo's for, so that's probably the deciding factor between those and the SL600s. And if you have a good source on the Brembo, let me know about it.
![]() If you use the search, there have been people done it, and some have used a stoptech kit. Might give it a look. Last edited by AustinsCE; 02-13-2007 at 01:32 PM. |

Brembo
I am running Brembo red callipers form a porsche 911/993 on my w201 up front, in combination with SL500 discs (320 mm)
Super! even @ the nurburgring! Discs original MB cost about 75 euro a piece, calipers about 300 euro a set on ebay. Brake hose: opel/vauxhaul, or custom ones Adapter: Just a 10 mm thick piece of construction steel, L-shaped. Bit DIY: measuring, sawing, drilling, milling (to get an exact 90 degree angle on the adapter) Sorry, no photos! Just buy the calipers and discs, and start DIY-ing! |

Hi have a full sl600 brake components sitting in my office that I'm putting of my 93 E320 Cabrio. There's a spread sheet that has the entire brake component breakdown floating around here the gives you all the part numbers to do the conversion and all the numbers for all the break setups of all w124's
