M.B.Doc,
Just bought a 93 400E at the salvage auction today and drove it back to my shop. Only damage was the roof got knocked down by an oak limb. Windshield cracked and rear gone.
Curious, is ASR on all 400E's or was it an option back then? How can I tell...on gravel?

Need any more spacers yet?

ASR was optional on 400E, and made standard on fact-lifted W124s.

Look at the cluster, in the speedometer, if the car is equipped with ASR, there is a triangle(which lights up when ASR is engaged) there. With out ASR, there are nothing on the speedometer guage.

I am beginning to doubt that all '94 and '95 E420's are equipped with ASR. Check out this US '94 E420, especially the speedometer. There is no ASR light.

Did the customer have the option of REMOVING ASR from his vehicle? For those from the US, *IF* you guys have ASR, just looking at the speedometer, where did they have room to stick the light? You guys have an inner kph as well as a mph display, making it very cluttered in the speedometer.

Only 1 in 4 had ASR through production in the US. Many northern MB dealers ordered a WINTER package that included ASR, but it wasn't standard equiptment. The option number for ASR is 471.

Question: if this is a Texas car, is it possible to buy and transport to another state (like California) and register it or do I have to add smog pump, etc etc once here?

Guess Canadian Spec cars are mostly with Winter Package then....

US and Canadian cars usually have slightly different equipments(Heated Seat for one. I believe they are optional on most, if not all, US MBs, but is standard on many Canadian cars).

North America MBs are always fully loaded by European standards. Heck even German W140s can be have with cloth seats, and w/out door-close ad!!

I think the heated seats are only avilable in S-Class for Canada-Spec Benz...or the new E-Class..heated seat is optional on C-Class and the 99 and earlier models of E-Class...I am not sure about the 2000 model

Sky,

Equipment level is all different in each country. Canadian W124 E420/400E from late-1993 on has ASR standard. All 400E/E420, regardless model year, have headlight wipers standard(though some 1995 E420s don't have them, why?? I don't know.... ).
