If this is a diesel,
you should post it over at biodiesel.infopop.cc
I thought '77 Sevilles were FWD! |

First gen. Sevilles were based on the GM compact (e.g. Chevy Nova) RWD platform; GM's first FWD car (except for the unique Eldo/Toronado) were the X cars (Chevy Citation, etc.) introduced in 1979. I don't think Sevilles went FWD until the bonsai versions in the mid-80's.

Apparently I have a long-standing misconception:
I thought the Sevilles of the '70s and '80s were just 4-door versions of the Toronadoes of the same years, except that at some point, diesel motors became a feature, which I don't think was ever true of the Toronado.
Years ago I had a neighbor with a Seville of that vintage, and I always assumed it was FWD, but I had so little interest in the barge that I never looked closely. Thank you for the correction. |

Yep, they made a Toro diesel. Some people swore by them... and many AT them.

OK. No wonder im having such a tough time selling this car. Nobody knows what it is! I understand though, you guys are MB experts, not Caddy experts. The 1976-79 Seville is rear-wheel drive and is a heavy re-engineered platform from the chevy nova that has a 3" longer wheelbase. Im told the only actual body part they share was the trunk floor pan. When the Seville was redesigned for 1980 it shared the Eldorado/Toronado front wheel drive platform. Most 76-79 Sevilles have a olds 350 gas with cadillac electronic fuel injection. Damn good engine. In 78-79 the 350 diesel was offered as an option, very few of these were sold.
Mine is the gas version. This car was the first time in history that Cadillac asked more for a smaller car, and it was a success. |

The Olds 350 is one of the best small blocks ever made. Damn thing is bullet proof. Sounds like a nice car, wish it was for sale at this time last year! I love the looks of that gen Seville.

Really nice Seville and obviously shows you've taken care of it. I have a 76 Seville and have loved it ever since I bought it, 18 years ago. I am convinced these are truly great American cars. Mine has 185,000 miles and runs like new on its original drivetrain. It's incredible, even the clock has been keeping accurate time for 27 years. These cars are filled with a tremendous assortment of unique accessories like headlights that turn on & off by themselves and even will dim automatically for oncoming traffic and of course auto climate control. Power assists to open & close the trunk and a tilt & telescope steering wheel, self-leveling suspension and the list goes on.
That engine coupled with electronic fuel injection really does perform well and the EFI has been unbelieveably reliable (only changed one temp. sensor) in all this time. I get comments all the time of what a nice car I have and people can't believe it's almost three decades old. Anyone buying your car will truly enjoy it for years to come, that's why there is still quite a few old Seville's on the road. By the way this car belongs on a Mercedes board - it has a lot of fuel injection parts made in Germany. |

Thanks midnightlsc,
Ive replaced the temp. sensor and the computer once, but thats it except for routine maintence. The rear axle bearings are worn so it makes some axle noise but the caddy dealer told me to leave it be if i didnt mind the noise because it does no damage. Ive really enjoyed this heavy car its a good long distance car still after all these years. A couple people have called about it, one guy drove it, but must have changed his mind or his wife didnt give him approval. I guess the market is soft right now for old cars, in an economy where just having 1 car is hard enough to afford. I really doubt that many more people would be interested in it even if i lowered it to $1600. |
