Exclamation Price too high?

Anyone here interested?

I am not familiar with this car, and the owner asked me to price it and sell it for him.

All reasonable offers appreciated.

Looks to be in great condition, but the price is high in my opinion. I would also be conserned about hidden rust considering where it grew up.

A good price in Florida. But, rust is not a big problem here.

Have them sell it here, they might be able to get close to $10k for it.

Florida Car...originally

Here is some more information:

I just got back from taking more pictures and getting more info from the owner.
You can see them by clicking here:
http://www.i2k.com/~bsmith/420sel/interior.html

The current owner is the 2nd. He bought it in January of 1996 from a local Grand Rapids dealer.
The dealer got it in as a trade-in for a new vehicle from the owner of the Florida Marlins. It was registered in Jensen Beach, Florida until 1996. (The first owner has/had a home here in the Grand Haven area.) At that time it had 84K on the clock.

The interior is a close to "immaculate" as I have seen for a 1991! The pictures I took will show that clearly.
The VIN# is: WDBCA35E2MA565896

The current owner has always taken it in for work to the dealer, as well as the first owner. The current owner does change his own oil, every 3500 miles.
Also, the current owner thinks that the drivers side door may have been repainted before he bought it, because he says that there is a very slight difference in the shades from the rest of the car. This was not in the purchase "disclosure" but he
was told that there had never been any accidents.
I have seen this car many, many times and I have never noticed. I tried to take pictures underneath to show that there is absolutely no rust on this vehicle. However, I could not get any to clearly take!
Here is one reason why there is no rust: They almost NEVER drive it in the winter! They drive a truck mostly in the snow, and used this car as his wifes driver, but it could be sitting for a week at a time (even during the non-winter months) until she drove it.

There has not been any major work neede on this car. All the records are there in the maintenance books. All manuals, etc. are included.

As I stated, this is a VERY sweet car, inside and out. It is not my vehicle, so I am doing my best to be completely honest with you about it's condition.

More info

Click http://www.i2k.com/~bsmith/420sel/ for several interior pictures as well.

Owner says he is willing to negotiate shipping costs as well!

One small oil "drip". The owner says it is in the back of the engine, and drips about 2 tablespoons if the car sits for two weeks or more.

I can't believe no one has bid on it yet.

Looking at the interior pictures, this has to be the cleanest 420 SEL I have ever seen.

You can "BUT IT NOW" for $10K.

If I was looking for a W126 right now, I'd buy it.

Question DejaVu all over again!

OK. Auction ended with no bidders, but a lot of email responses!
So, I relisted it for him.

Here is the link:
Item #1857380948

You can see photos on inside and out here:
420SEL pictures...

Noticed that the owner lowered the starting bid to $9,500.
"Buy It Now" for $11,500.

Owner is willing to negotiate shipping costs as well!
(Seller is motivated! )

This is a beautiful example of a W126. It's interior rivals mine - it is immaculate. This is a car that was over $63k when new!
1991 420SEL
I wish I needed another right now. Good luck selling it - I'm quite surprised it's taken so long.

One last time...

OK, fellas...
3 hours left and not a single bid?
TONS of people email me with questions, but not one bid.
If it does not sell the owner will keep it!

Wow. I seriously thought that it would have sold very quick at that price!

Well, the car is clean, I'll give you that, but even at $9,500, it's still overpriced.

I checked the Kelly Blue Book, and the private party retail excellent condition is $9025. The private party good condition is $8275.

I find that even dealers sell for below dealer retail value, so I think the seller will be lucky to even get $8,000 for the car.

It's just my opinion, and feel free to ignore it.

Well, I believe he paid more than retail, but at least he got a very clean, well-maintained MB, which I think is a better deal in the long run than a questionable car in average / poor condition for a cheap price.

Don't we always say that the most expensive MB is a cheap one?

Paul,

This is a beautiful car and I don't know what one can expect from the engine with that mileage and no work thus performed, i.e. timming chain, valves or what else - don't know these cars. However, do you ever consult NADA? Their avgerage retail is almost twice Kelly Blue Book. I know most new dealers in the Atlanta area use KBB trade-in values if you are trading in an auto and they seem to be the lowest of all price books. They also use NADA black book which I don't have access to. My gut feeling is that KBB is a bit low on Mercede-Benz cars. What do you think?
