I am not sure if that is the aluminum block engine or not. If so very very rare. It does seem to have the mechanical fuel injection.

That car has very serious rust issues. Perhaps the floor has been replaced already.

I'd imagine if all was in good shape it would still feel pretty quick.

Does this car have the w109 suspension? In working order? 300se seems pretty rare, especially in a sedan. I thought all the w109 were long wheel base.

the ad says non-air suspension if that's what you're asking. i can get information about the car from the seller if you would like to know more.

I don’t need info, but looked up on automobile-catalog.com and see that the 300se is a w109 which I assume means it’s an air suspension car.

from the interwebs.....
"The smaller six-cylinder inline engines (250 S/SE and 280 S/SE/SEL) were assigned to W108 only."

perhaps it is a w108 non-air suspension model

If not a big six 3.0, and not an air suspension car, then what would make it a 300se as opposed to a 250se or 280se? It looks like a big six to me. I don’t see any air suspension stuff though. So perhaps somehow it was retrofitted with standard spring suspension. At that point it would basically be a rotted w108 with a big six because it’s not worth putting the air suspension back into. So, then it’s a parts car with a big six drive train being it’s most valuable part. I’m not trying to be a jerk about this but know that sounds jerky. If it’s got savable air suspension then it’s much more interesting.

To me it would seem that the fuel injected big block six would have value.

I'd buy that engine at some price just to use it in a novel situation..

I recall seeing a 300se coupe for sale in California that was rusty, and for some reason it came with a big six motor that wasn’t in the car. I recall a conversation about it, and discussions stating that the motor alone had significant value. In this scenario, it seems a compression test might be the next step on the vehicle since the motor is so much of the value here. I wish I knew mechanical injection well enough to know how to do that without messing up a potentially varnished system.

Just for jollies, price out a distributor cap and rotor for this if you can find them. My 63 300SE (alloy block with cast liners) came to me with a single point 220S distributor rather than the factory dual point unit.
