1984 300 SD, $1,000 East Tennessee
Up for sale is my 1984 300SD. I am going to be moving to Arizona eventually and dont wish to try it with cars numbering in double digits. This is why you're getting such a wonderful car at a banger price. I bought this car in '09 and put a good 12,000 miles on it before eventually it was sidelined at the beginning of this year. I have done a large ammount of work on the car and its really a fun version of the w126. Color is anthricite gray with a palomino leather interior. The car has 270k miles on it but wears them well. While I drove this car I was constantly trying to make it a bit quicker, so there have been a few "modifications" from stock. I also have a cache of preformance goodies that will go with the car, and yes plenty of spare w126 parts too.
The headlights are depo, and I installed them. They have hella bulbs, and are a lovely improvement over stock. I did not take the time to install the headlight leveling bit because I simply didnt see the need. Right now the fan is out of the car, and a higher preformance injection pump is installed. I got it from Phil. I stopped driving the car because it was smoking light gray at idle at all times with a shaky idle. I suspected either a blown ring or that the ip needed to be retimed as there was a run of IP's built with the alighment indexing mark actually off by two full splines. I never got around to the work because I was the primary caregiver for my granny who was dying from heart failure, and lung disease for the last two years. I could have sent her to a Nursing Home but promised her I wouldn't. I am a man of my word, so she was able to stay in her home and receive care from me right up until her last breath. Before the car could be driven confidently on any kind of long trip again I would do the following; -Resolve the engines running issue (duh!) -Replace driveshaft center support bearing -Clean fuel sender -Check wheel bearings (just a habit of mine, I check them often on all cars.) -Flush the brake fluid (another habit) -pads and rotors all around (product of the go fast parts) The front glass has a crack from a rock chip. Its low and not in the drivers field of view at all so it never bothered me. If your state requires an inspection it may bother them. I cut out the center mufflers and replaced them with a straight piece of pipe as they were rusted. The rear muffler is a glass pack that makes a really nice sound. Purists may not like it but the engine enjoys breathing easier. There is a modern CD player which I did not install but never minded using, especially since the bloody thing works! (: The CCU is a rebuilt one from Phil, and the blower is new. The vent pods all worked fine when I drove the car, but if you're OCD go ahead and install new ones because this cars are original. Wipers work fine. Tie rods are new, center link and the remainder of the steering gear is original. Tires are bridgestone all weather and are effectively new. The wheels are highly polished bundts and look lovely. The transmission worked fine when I last drove the car. The glow plugs are all new bosch, as is the glow plug relay. The fuel injectors are new Bosch Monarks from Sean C Watts. Belts are all good, alt is original with new volt regulator. Water pump and PS pump work great. Sunroof works, as did all windows. I will add details and answer questions as needed. I'm not working on any kind of timetable and I want to make sure this car gets a good home. I have a blue 300D parts car that has an OM617 with really strong compression that would make the perfect donor engine for this SD. |
