For sale: 1992 Mercedes 400E
I'm selling my '92 400E that has been in the family since '95 (I purchased it from my grandfather in '01).
Some details: Price: $4200 Mileage: ~111K Miles Things I have replaced: Engine wiring harness, belt tensioner, radiator (and hoses), aux. fan resistor, rear shocks. Stereo: CD/MP3 player (all new speakers) Specs: 4.2L V8, auto, traction control, and the usual equipment (AC, sun roof, leather, etc) Everything on the car is in working order and good condition. In '02 it got hit by some acid rain and the top half color (metallic gray) was stripped and repainted. The only cosmetic issues are a few small rock chips (nothing a bottle of touch-up wouldn't take care of quickly) and a small shopping cart scuff on the drivers side rear passenger door. All other parts on the car are factory outside of the usual wear items (oil, tires, brakes parts, etc). In general this car is in great condition, but I too many toys and this one has to go. It is located in Raleigh, NC. Feel free to ask any questions you have. I will also post some more pics. Thanks, Bob Last edited by bkinnc; 12-06-2008 at 03:30 PM. Reason: Tweak pictures |

Where has the car been owned and driven? I don't mean every trip, but where has the car been used most of the time? What state? Is the ownership history exclusively in NC?
I'm asking to try to determine the extent of rust development. Ken300D

My grandfather had it exclusively (outside of vacations or whatever trips he took) in Gloucester, VA (he bought it from a dealer there, so from '92- '01). When I bought it I was in OH, so it spent from late '01 - mid '06 in Ohio. I usually didn't drive it in the winter (had a truck I used), but there were a few times I did take it out. I don't believe there is any rust on or under it, but I can go take a closer look if you like and snap some shots of the undercarriage. The only rust I know of are the tiny specs on the rock chip locations (couple on the hood and a couple on the door - again, I can take some close-ups of those if interested).

Wow...not much traffic here...Maybe it's just slow due to the holidays! Come on, nobody is looking for a really nice older Benz?

I'm interested Bob.
I'd like to see pics of the undercarriage and those small rust spots. Thanks, Skip |

Snapped some quick pics tonight. Hopefully the quality on these is satisfactory. And it does need a bath as it got caught in some rain a couple days ago. I'll try to get some undercarriage pics tomorrow. It does have the original exhaust so it's pretty clean...

Attached are some more pics.
I took more then what I posted, they can be found at the below link. They are also full-size so if you click on the thumbnails it might take a couple seconds to get the full version. http://ncapp.wavefrontsoftware.com/mb400e/index2.htm I also took some close-ups of the the paint chips. I only found 4 of them (one more on hood since the post last night). They are also on the link above. Bob |
