Not sure, but it will probably be in the ball park of the BMW M3, the S-type 4.0R, Audi S4, etc. I am guessing high $40k.

The M3 (343 hp) will start at $46k (last I heard)
The S4 (250 hp) starts at $38k.
The Jaguar S-type 4.0 R (370 hp) will probably start at $55k
The Saab 9-3 Viggen (230 hp) starts at $38k

Now depending on the model MB and AMG pull out, I am guessing a C32 AMG Kompressor (310 HP) around mid $40. If the C32 (or C36) AMG BiKompressor (400 hp) makes it, then the car will be $50k or over.

So, its basically all up in the air.

- had a 84 300TD w/275k+ miles
- 2001 C-Class - Maybe (if 190E sells)

First of all, the C32 AMG will debut as a 2002 model. I don't think the car will cost less than the C43 AMG. So expect the base prices to be above $50K and around $53K for both the 2002 C32 AMG and probably the 2001 M3 will base at the same level. This prices will probably include the nav system.

I agree with Kevin. The C32 AMG is not going to show up as a 2001 model, at least not in the U.S. We already know that the W203s will be priced slightly less that the W202s. I expect that the W203 C32 AMG will be slightly less than the W202 C43 AMG, even though it should perform better and have more equipment. The '99/'00 C43 was $53,000, so I would expect the price of the 2002 C32 AMG to be very close to $50K.

BTW, there is a rumor that output of the supercharged engine in the C32 AMG has been increased from 320hp to 354hp. It's also rumored that the way AMG got this gain was to increase the displacement from 3.2L to 3.6L. All hail the return of the C36 :-)

depends with what they go as far as engines. I agree, it will probably be on the high side, because BMW has released rough pricing marking it around $50k, as well.

"so then the Fall 2000 target date i heard about for the C32 is not accurate?"

No, there will not be a C32 AMG for the 2001 model year in the U.S. Autoweeks says that the C32, and the C-class AWD will show up in the U.S. for the 2002 model year, possibly together (i.e a C32 AMG with 4-matic).

"If the C32 (or C36) AMG BiKompressor (400 hp) makes it, then the car will be $50k or over."

Don't expect 400hp from the W203 C-class AMG. There is no marketing reason to go above 350hp. Even the supercharged 3.2L with 320hp would have enough extra torque to go head to head with the new 343hp BMW M engine.

Don't expect a bi-kompressor engine, either. Two superchargers would be rather costly considering it's just as easy and alot cheaper to put on a one large supercharger that can do the same job. I can't see MBUSA putting a 4yr/50k warranty on such a design.
