I can only speak for CIS fuel systems (VW), where you only care what the pressure is when the pump is on and whether or not it drops significantly after the car sits. It really doesn't change otherwise. I'm assuming you'd want to rig up a sending unit to go to a gauge on the dash if you need to see it all the time. Easy to do though, VDO-type sending units are about $20.

I need to remind everyone about pulling too hard on the fuel supply line in the engine bay....if it is still stock size.

Diesel will produce a vapor bubble when subject to negative pressure ( Slight Vacuum.) These bubbles will not collapse back into liquid fuel even after the pressure is positive again.

So, if you pull hard on the stock tank outlet, you will run into fuel supply getting vapor bubbles to a greater or lesser extent....none of this is good.

If the engine is under heavy load when this occurs you will have reduced power...eg: Powering past a semi truck up hill is not where lack of power is wanted.

Diesel fuel should flow no faster than 4 feet per second to the lift pump. Increasing the fuel line id will reduce the fuel flow speed.

The W210 606 fuel supply is too small for any turbo motor. You can drill out the tank outlet to 12 mm which nearly doubles the flow capacity. Then continue the 1/2 inch line to the pre filter screen in the filter housing by passing the fuel heat exchanger which is also restrictive.

Pulling fuel with electric pumps without the above modification will cause vapor bubbles in your fuel supply.

Post Fuel Supply issues

This is why one is supposed to mount the accessory fuel pumps as close to the tank as possible .

I have not yet done this to my Diesels as they seem to run fine even @ WFO .

Not sure ....

If I get another batch in, it probably won't be until mid or end of summer. I prefer to move the springs first as I don't like to carry a bunch of inventory. Of course I should follow my own preferences and I should finish the 4 or 5 lift pumps I have 'almost' ready to post for sale ...

Thumbs up OFV Tweaking

Boy howdy does this ever work ! .

I sent a message to greazer and am hoping he'll get some new springs in , so far no reply .

I took my old OFV apart for a look see and was surprised to discover the spring was worn paper thin on one side about 1/2 down it , the ball bearing check valve was worn deeply into the end of the spring , bell mouthing it ~ I could easily blow through it and I knew this wasn't good so I rustled up a good used OFV , took it apart for cleaning and inspection , did a questionable thing by following the FSM (message # 113 in this thread) and stretched it a little bit , being *very* careful to stretch it evenly , not just yanking one ends coils....

It now has a wonderfully delicate throttle response at any speed over 2,000 RPM .

I have no illusions about the 30 + year old spring I stretched and am looking forward to junking that as soon as new springs are again available .

DO THIS ! my old engine is no ball of fire but this woke it right the heck up .

Post More Details On This

I have an occasional access to injection pump cores so I've been grabbing the old OFV's off them and measuring the tiny little springs .

All seem to be 23MM long and most show significant wear , making this new stronger spring a better sounding idea every day .

The one I stretched to 27 MM per the FSM , worked for a while then I noticed a drop in power yesterday , removed it and was able to blow through it , not a good sign so I took the least worn spring from my pile of old OF valves and installed it ~ bingo ! back to more power and *much* smoother running .

Here's hoping greezer gets in another bunch of his up rated 617 turbo springs ere long .

I have a handful of springs left, turbo only application. Price is the same, $35 shipped CONUS. PM me with your PayPal address and I will send an invoice. Thanks in advance. I do not have any new OFVs left. So, you will need to rebuild what you have which takes around 5 minutes.

Any plans to make another batch of the 617 OFV's? I'm tempted to order just the spring, but with the fully assembled replacement valves priced at just $5 more, I'd be happy to wait for another batch of new valves. Also I'd be concerned that if I ordered just the spring, my luck would be that somehow my existing valve would be damaged/un-rebuildable for some stupid reason... Murphy's Law and such...

^^ PM responded / invoice sent.

Once the above transaction occurs, I only have three (3) left ( I think) -- springs only.
