I am looking into the possibility of assembling a 2-liter version of an OM60x series engine for use in land speed racing.

The 4-valve 604 head would be a great feature. There were some 2-liter OM604's available in Portugal (and possibly some other markets), but they are exceedingly rare.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to use a US-spec OM601 block, along with European 84mm crankshaft, OM606 pistons and rods, and an OM604 cylinder head.

Jeemu indicated that it was possible, and that he was working on an OM601/604 hybrid at one point in time, but he hasn't posted in the last year or so.

Any practical knowledge on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
