It still remains that I have no appreciable difference in power or economy. Its arguable that I actually have more power without it since pumping losses from pipe bends and the intercooler core are eliminated. (Thats another reason I'm going air/water on my 300D.)

Diesels only care about having at least enough air to burn all the fuel, charge temperature just affects how long the power can be maintained safely.
G@ssers are different, a few degrees difference in charge air can make 10+hp since an A/F ratio must be maintained and more/less mixture can get into the cylinder.

Thumbs up

Hey well while you guys a talking about intercoolers check out my set up! I did noticed a difference with my intercooler on, my car burns more efficiently the diesel since there is colder air supplied. I will upgrade the Turbo. i do like the stock Garrett Turbo BUT! i think lance has a point with the jeep liberty? turbo? his vnt seems to spool a whole lot quicker then my Stock T3 Garrett even tho i am boosting 15 psi. "lighter" compressor wheels must result a quicker turbo spool/boost. Now i have different nozzles in my injectors instead of the stock DNOSD240's Bosch i am going to use larger Bosch DNOSD248's Nozzles since I WILL BE cracking up my fuel pump to deliver more fuel, i check out my fuel pump this past month i think i sould be able to squeeze out 20HP out of it.... and lot's more torque my 3" SS exhaust will be made first to make sure the Exhaust flow is nice without any restrictions.
Lance wellll humm forced i am looking for a turbo to use with my set up you said a Jeep liberty 2.8L CRD Turbo would be good for my W126 617.95X???? Since i own a high performance parts store i have access directly to Garrett, you were talking a GT2256? right that is a small turbo!!, is the liberty turbo bigger smaller or same? i am welcoming good informed technical support on this because my car is ready for paint, so after that i want to upgrade the Turbo. I HAVE ACCESS TO MANY TURBO's i wanna hear your output for a 617.... i sell high performance parts 6/7days but when it comes to my car it's different.... i need to know what you be the BEST.

That's a lot of tubing on that intercdooler, how much more turbo lag do you get with all that?

I couldn't find a Sierra Cosworth intercooler. I was wondering about the Sprinters Intercooler's siutabiltiy. This is on a 240D. The width would concern me a bit if using the Ford Falcon radiator.

I've no idea on the sprinter intercooler as I have never seen one is person. You should be able to get a 2wd cosworth intercooler in the UK for cheap. If not PM me and I'll put in you touch with a friend in Seattle who has a few.

I'm kind of late in this thread, but...

This looks like (at least parts from) a Swedish STT 240D Turbo System...if you're looking for the intake box that came with the system as originally supplied by STT, I have a brand new full 240D kit (that I have yet to install on something...) if you want the Volvo part number from the airbox I have, let me know. I could post a couple pics of it too if you want.

Graminal, one of my friends works at his dad's Volvo shop. If you want, I can ask him to find you an user 940 turbo box. Just make sure to block/reroute the heater hose inlet on the bottom. Another option is to use the box off a diesel Volvo.

A different idea: have you considered getting some aluminum sheetmetal and make a box that goes from the front of the car, a bit inboard off the headlight, and then turns right and ends in the fender? A circular hole would allow you to put your current airfilter. Some Volvo trunk weatherstripping would make it seal against the hood or something. I was just thinking on that since my friend did it on his Volvo and it seemed to work fine. After all, a flat piece of aluminum is easier to dress with some nice heat shield stuff.

What do you think?

Boy, it's nice to feel useful every now and again!!...

Here you go:

Volvo Airbox part # 1267304
Volvo Snorkel part # 1266458

STT Turbo note on box says it takes the following air filters:

Volvo # 1328047
Fram# CA 3399
Purolator # PM 1153

Attached are a few pictures of the airbox/snorkel as well as a couple of the cast intake piece STT fabricated for the turbo discharge/air intake connection. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

P.S.- when you have a chance, I'd love to know where you got the turbo oil supply line and turbo oil pan drain fittings...a couple items I DON'T have in the kit!

Thanks Jay!

I spoke with STT when I was living in Sweden over a year ago but they were not that helpful with info, although they did send me the install guide for a 240GD.

I made up the oil feed and return lines. It took me a few hours to make both lines, and weld a bung on the oil pan.
