OM606 ST Project - The Fueling Side of the Equasion
Well, I hadn't planned on buying the fuel parts for my project yet but I had an opportunity come up and I took advantage of it thanks to a very helpful gentleman.
So here'a a list of the parts I have: 6 experimental 3 sided nozzles 6 custom cut delivery valves 6 7mm elements 12 springs to try out for the best combination I still need to do a baseline dyno on the car and then the first parts to go in will be the nozzles followed by the DV's and then the elements. I'll see how the computer reacts to each part in turn and then I'll look into getting the program tweaked for best performance. Don't expect this to happen soon. Probably within a month for the nozzles and 3-4 months for the other parts. I have to synchronize the bigger fueling mods with my induction project.

Do you have a pump rebuilder willing to install and calibrate oversize plunger/barrels? I'd definitely be curious to see how the computer reacts to more fueling. It sure would be nice if MB had an "on-the-fly" computer program like the VAG-COM units the VW TDI guys use to make laptop adjustments while driving.

The internals in this pump are very simple so I'm not sure exactly what would need to be calibrated with the larger elements. The rack is controlled by an electromagnet which receives a PCM signal from the computer and that is pretty much all.
As far as where this stuff came from, at this point, since it was an individual that helped me get it, I'm not comfortable giving out his information.

The 7mm elements for the pump are commonly available from Myna Diesel in Finland, last I heard they were about $50 EUR each. The other items mentioned above are custom fabricated... although it wouldn't hurt to ask Myna if they have experimented with something similar.
Please let us know when you have the baseline dyno run complete! I'd love to see the dyno graph for a stock 606.962 engine. Remember to disconnect both the Bowden cable (if present) at the throttle linkage, and kickdown solenoid at the tranny, prior to the dyno run. Experiment with this on the street, make sure you can give it full throttle in 3rd gear starting at around 20mph (~2000rpm) without a downshift. You need the car in 3rd gear at WOT, from approx 2000rpm to redline, for a proper dyno pull. Click here to see a video of my first dyno session (warning - 18MB download). This dyno shop went out of business shortly afterwards, so I had to re-dyno at a different shop to get a new baseline. I don't have the videos posted yet from the second shop... the new shop also has a DynoJet, but a larger/nicer dyno. I also have done testing at the dragstrip, and 0-100 tests with an AP-22 performance meter, so I have lots of baseline data. |

Just a small update here: Today I ordered the parts for my pop tester. When I finish it, I'll get to work assembling the injectors. Also, I'll probably do my baseline dyno some time this week.
It's quite convenient having the shop only 10 min. from the office...
