Aux water pump leak

Folks, I have a slight coolant leak from the aux water/heater pump located in the battery bay of my 95 E300D. I do not want to part with $375 for a new one. It looks like an easy bypass job (run some hose). Are there any issues with this bypass? Anyone done it? Thanks
