I have the same car, and had a similar problem, consequently I have become somewhat of an expert on this. In my case the brown plastic housing [the one that holds the auxiliary water pump and mono-valve] was slightly cracked, and allowed drops of antifreeze to escape. I put epoxy on that and it stopped the leak.
However I also discovered that my auxiliary water pump was not working. I disassembled it, cleaned it, and temporarily got it working again. Since however the brushes were worn out, I finally replaced the whole assembly at the cost that you mentioned.
I am not clear however as to where your leak is. If it is the actual auxiliary water pump, you can try to LIGHTLY tighten the three screws that hold it down. Alternatively, disassemble it and examine the "O" ring. Perhaps you can put some gasket sealant around it and then put it back.
Let me know exactly where the leak is and perhaps I can better advise you.
