I had to do those on the fly with only my sister's meager toolbox to help me- ended up using the metal sheath the bearings came in as a flat press and a block of wood over that. not elegant, but it worked. prior to the replacement, the drivers side one was roaring and I knew it had to go! I think I remember the haynes manual making me think I was missing something at first. It was my first mb bearing, and I had stupidly mistaken the grease cap in the picture for only one part of it. so I was getting frustrated getting that damn thing out... but then I figgured it out and the new one (got it at autozone unfortunately) went in without incident.
Timken is in wooster ohio where I used to live!

It's almost 9am. When the bell tolls I'll call the parts house I bought the bearings from and have them cross reference to the above numbers to see if they gave me the right ones. They were closed all weekend so I have been stuck.

Is the LM# bearing above the inner wheel bearing?

ok...... now what do I do? Their books does cross reference Timpken #LM48548 to be the same as the bearing part number they sold me.

Soooooooo why wont it fit on my spindle shaft?

Reminder. After the front hub would not go all the way on I took the outer bearing back out of the hub and tried to slide it onto my spindle. It does not go on all the way. It stops after just barely starting to slide onto the spindle surface it rides on.

123 and 126 wheel bearings should be standard Set 3 (outer) and Set 5 (inner). AutoZone sells Timken brand for about $20/side.

ok.... here is where it's at. I took the other spindle that I had also but new bearing and races in and tried it on the spindle. That one went on just fine.

I returned the bearing that did NOT want to slide on and traded it for a new bearing. I wanted the same company bearing so it would match the new race already pressed in. We put a mic on the one that did not fit. We compared to the new one and yes, there was a difference though only slight.

So Im back in business.

huh? Does that math make since? Did you misstype? They're 3 outer pieces (cap, race, bearing) and 2 inner pieces (race and bearing) per axle. Not sure how you came up with 5 for the inner.

Set 3 and Set 5 are standard bearing sizes. Ordering as a "set" you get the bearing & race. The dust cap has nothing to do with the bearings and may be reused.

ohhhhh I got you the name of the items are "Set 3" and "Set 5". I thought you were saying there were 3 items plus 5 items for total of eight items.

Anyway.. Im all installed now in the front w/ New bearings & races, Brake disk, Brake pads.

Now I will start the back. Just doing Disk and pads I hope.
