Its not like we are rich or need to show off the cars.
We enjoy them.

Multiple cars; that is us.

Still have 45 vehicles missing from this list.
Should I count parts cars, it would tripple the size of this list?
I don;t understand...how did you have 7 friggin Ford Pintos at one time? At least you've got some nice cars now...though it's a pity that it looks like you never got into the whole muscle car fad. I'm 17 and I sometimes wish it were the 60's, which correct me if im wrong, was a decade of relatively cheap horsepower/torque, gasoline, and insurance...

The format is:

How many of this year/make/model owned.
(7) 1972 Ford Pinto

Engine.
straight 4

Those seven cars cover five years as I recall.

1998 Ford Explorer 174,000mi Stuffed to the gills with radio equipment.
1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 145,000mi 14.1/98 in the quarter, with time slips
1984 Honda Aspencade 45,000mi the chrome is worth more than the bike.

We discovered that the Camaro is not a safe winter car in Utah. I've had two W123's in the past, so I convinced Angel that another would be perfect as a winter car. We bought the 300CD on eBay, from a local.

I can't get the furshenlugger Benz away from her. I don't get to drive it, unless she is on board. So far, I've been in it alone only for a speed run to Ohio and back.

It gets a wash every Tuesday and Friday, with most of the water going under the car, in the wheel wells, and thru the jack points. The body drains are all open, and I do not think that I am at much risk for rust. I know, now that I have ben reading this forum, that it is a capital crime to use this as a winter car, but Angel isn't listening. She could not be more happy than when she is driving that W123.

My daughter, OTOH, wants nothing to do with it. She bought herself a 2001 Chevrolet Cavilier. What's a father to do?...

I'm eaten up with this same disease and I think it's time for me to go to the Betty Ford Center for Auto Obsession.

My daughter has totaled two cars and it finally caught up with me two days ago when my insurance company said that they will not renew. The money I pay out in insurance is outrageous.

It has come time for me to just sell some cars and trucks and get them out of here, even the ones that aren't on the road. The struggle comes in what to get rid of.

I know I won't sell my 300E 5 Speed, and my wife won't let me sell the '78 F150 4X4 that we bought new. There are some cars I've never mentioned on this forum that will go and then there is my 123 "collection." I have an '81 300D with a spoiled engine bottom end that will definitly go. There is my old 84 Euro 240D that I drove a half million miles and the Euro parts car for it. As much as I hate to part with them, I think they need to go. My goal was to restore the 84, but it's nine years until retirement, and there's no way I will be able to do it before then. If I wait that long, the car will just set there and rot, which would probably bring even more heartache.

My wife wants me to get rid of my Vette, but it is at the stage where it is at the least value that it will ever have. It is a stick shift generation 4 car that will appreciate since there were so few sticks put in the C4's.

It is definitely a disease and it's time to check in and dry out.

Have a great day,

I share your pain. Getting in and out of our driveway is a real exercise and the neighbors all think I am nuts (but that is OK). Insurance is the biggest problem, because no matter what I do they stick it to me (never had an accident, but I do have two teenage drivers in the family).

It could be worse. It is a hobby and not an obsession. It is a hobby and not an obsession. It is a hobb...

Yep! Four cars, and just me driving them.
Well, that's not completely true...lol... I just drive the 300D and the E420. The 420SEL is up for sale, and the 280SE needs to have the rust fixed, and some paint, as the clear coat peeled worse than a northern tourist during season. (fellow Floridians know what I mean)
I suppose, if I could afford the insurance (and they wouldn't give me a hard time about having another car to insure - they questioned me buying a 5th car) I would be driving all of them. They all have their own distinct personality, and in some instances are better friends than some people.

whunter - I saw those Gremlins.... My family sold one years ago...it was bright, nearly neon, green. That wasn't you that bought it, was it?
I was visiting Motown last year, and was amazed at the amount of domestic cars, when I remembered that most of the area is in some way connected to the "big 3" and is almost obligated to buy one of their products. I imagine that gives the bean-counters a false sense of security when they see so much of their own stuff out there being shaken apart on the lousy roads up there.

Larry Bible - Hey guy! Good to see you again! I would hate to never hear from you again, as I remember you waay back from your posts on Sven's board, shortly before you joined here.

Hmmm "Betty FORD Clinic"....not sure I could bring myself there.... Maybe if there was a Betty BENZ Clinic...

I only have three cars and one other motorized vehicle, and my parents and friends think I'm a little nuts. If I had as many as some of you have, they would have me committed!

Larry Delor,

Yes, I think you were the one that pointed me toward mercedesshop.com. I was seeking some rear axle info on a very infrequently visited page that was UK based I think. You said if I posted it on mshop I would get an answer in an hour and that is indeed what happened. That was over five years ago.

There has been a poster that has disputed about half the posts that I've made. He just has to dispute whatever I say about half the time and he is VERY direct. I finally just put him on ignore so that I can just keep on truckin' along on mshop.

After going through that I have found a few more forums on which I spend most of my time, so my post frequency here will be very limited compared to what it once was.

BTW Everyone,

I live WAAaaayy out in the boondocks, so I don't have a storage problem for these cars.

Have a great day,

When I was a baby, my parents, my oldest brother, and my sister had cars. Four people equals four cars right? Well, this is what was parked in our driveway in 1987.

1971 Buick Riviera (brown with white top boattail, stopped being driven in 85, donated to charity organization in 98)
1971 VW Cabriolet (red with black top, sold a few years later)
1978 Cadillac Coupe DeVille (black on black, don't quite know what happened to it)
1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD (at the body shop as I type)
1983 Nissan Sentra (blue, sold about 10 years ago)
1985 Lincoln Town Car (brown, totalled out in 96)
1985 Mercury Cougar (donated to some charity organization in 98')

Four people, and seven cars.

I know a lot of you guys own boats also, what is the one thing you don't do when you own a boat? Well their are actualy two, never justify it and never add up the bills!

I am 19 and in my Freshman year of college. So far my SDL is my only car but that will change in a few months. I want a winter beater probably a little Saturn or VW.

But after I get out of school I will dump the winter beater and get something newer. Probably a W211 off of a long term lease.

My ideal garage would include about 5 cars.
A late model MB for daily use
A late model truck for winter and hauling stuff. (Toyota)
My SDL
A little sports car of some type, E type maybe, or a Lotus, or MG.
A powerfull sickly fast car. Modified Viper or SL65 maybe! Something to destroy rear tires with.

My ideal fleet would be a:
Classic Chris Craft barrel back
A modern 60ft sportfish
A 25 Regulator center console to be towed by said sportfish.
A 15ft rib for fun
A pair of jet skis
Also a Star boat for a little racing fun.

My ideal flying fleet would be:
G5 (in my dreams! )
Some sort of chopper. A chopper would be cool, very expensive though.

He who dies with the most toys wins!

Gremlin addiction

Whunter,
If I ever have a hunkering for an AMC Gremlin, I know who to go to for advice. Wow.

Back on topic:
We have a 2 car garage. No cars reside in it. SWMBOs furniture to be reupolstered, 2nd fridge, small freezer, bikes, my motorcycle, hardware, etc. have taken residence. Except for the motorcycle all vehicles listed below are in the driveway.

300TD is my daily driver unless there's snow, ice, or salt.
Chevy Lumina is the airport/snow /ice/salt car.

Suzuki Samurai stands by for other emergencies. It's great to have a convertible 4wd that doesn't take up much space at all. I never commute in it as it would crumple like tin foil if I got between 2 cars in an accident. I did get bumped from behind in it once. The car is so light, it was pushed 3 feet from a stop and the other car was almost totaled due to the spare tire on the back of the Sammy combined with the real metal bumper.

BMW K100 motorcycle because I need it. 'Nuff said there.

Oh yeah, my wife drives a Toyota Camry. That's the one thing right side of the driveway, unless we have visitors. She prefers to drive that unless it's in the shop, then she'll happily use any of mine, except for the K100.

Most..NO... ALL of our neighbors within sight drive new cars, one per each driver /household. Whether they are leased or not, I don't know and don't care. One or two I think have garage queen antiques that never see the light of day on the road.
I know some of them complain about the high cost of living, etc. while they take 3 and 4 expensive vacations per year w/ their new cars. I keep my mouth shut and smile.

Damn!!

And I thought I had many cars before!!

Well, I'm 21 and until just a few months ago, I owned many, many cars. I owned my first car and the subsequent cars I had bought after that. As of October last year, these are the cars I owned (in the order acquired):

1989 Mazda 929
1999 Toyota Avalon
2001 BMW X5 3.0i Manual
1990 Honda Civic
1989 Toyota Corolla
1984 Mercedes-Benz 300SD
1984 Mercedes-Benz Euro 500SEL

The Mazda was my first car... purchased for me by my parents when I was 16. Then when I started working and made enough money, I bought the Avalon. Then I bought the Civic so my girlfriend could use it till she got another car. Then when I graduated and got a big $$ contract so as a reward to myself I bought the Bimmer . Then early last year I paid $50 for the Toyota Corolla (the PO had run it out of oil in BOTH the transmission and the engine ). It was just a project car for my friend and I. Intention was to fix it and then sell it afterwards. Few months later I bought the 300SD, and a few months after that the 500SEL. Then I decided to set my sights on acquiring one of my two dream cars: a 1999 Mercedes-Benz S600 loaded. Then came time to downsize. Sold the Bimmer, Mazda (to my brother) and the Avalon. Gave the Civic away as a gift to my sister who now loves me to death for that. Kept the Toyota Corolla for those nasty winter days when a rear wheel drive Benz would have enough time avoiding landing me in a ditch, an accident or something else I don't know. Plus, the Corolla with its completely rebuilt engine and transmission would last for very long time. So now, the three cars I own are in my signature.

You won't believe how much money I made from those sales and most importantly, how much insurance money I am saving now!! Reason? Well, I refuse to have anything less than full-coverage (or liability with comprehensive) on any of my cars. And I actually made money on each of those cars. Whoever said cars can't be an investment. That's my story!!

I've had so many cars, I can barley remember them all, and I'm only 22. The problem is, I'm never happy.. there is always something out there I want. I must have owned atleast 15 mercedes, with altleast 10 of them being diesels. I just bought a Audi A6 Quattro a while back.. I put 3,500 miles on it and I'm already looking for something faster.. either a 4.2 Quattro or an M3.
