Yes that is the part, it starts off white but in time yellows. Remember to clean that (green?) damper out with some carb cleaner or equivalent. Probably not a good idea to clean the bleeder valve though, normally is what is stopping it from leaking. Well other than just taking out the black line and using your vac gauge there to get the previously mentioned values while running after shutting the car off take all the lines off the top and see if you can get it to hold 14"hg, odds are it leaks which is another bad sign for it.

Boost,

I think something isn't right ALEADY just reading your post. That black line (that goes to the trans. On my car it is just a straight shot from the trans to the Y vac splitter. And that is what I *THOUGHT* it shows in the diagram... what did I miss?

Pete

No that sounds right. To get the values at WOT, idle, and 10mm you disconnect the black line from the Y and test there. But to test for leaking you pull all the lines off the bleeder valve.

yes, that is the site,,
Be advised also that MB changed the vacuum setting it called for on the modulators on some cars...
find if your car is one of those by checking alldata.com and reading the titles of the tech bulletins...

Greg, that's part of the info I was looking for!

"All testing and repairs should be done after viewing the pertinent vacuum schematic, as the system is intertwined with supply of EGR and intake pressure control systems. "

I don't mean to steal this thread - but why would giving the EGR a good cleaning with carb cleaner make the transmission shift like brand new? Is this a temp fix for a failing part?

I think what they mean there is since the tranny is sharing the vacuum feed line with the EGR that it is important that the EGR control valve isn't leaking. The control valve controls the EGRs functions, mine used to leak bad and it caused my shifting to be worsened by a little bit. I don't get clean the EGR valve with carb cleaner out of that quote.
