Hydraulic line Replacement on 300TD?
The oil tank return line for the rear level control system on my '84 300TD has rusted through just above the rear axle carrier. As the clearance between the vehicle body and the axle carrier is minimal, I would appreciate any advice as to the easiest way to replace this 6mm line. If the steel line replacement requires dropping the rear axle carrier, I'm wondering if a section of high pressure flexible hose could be spliced into the low pressure return line?
Thanks for any help Dave Jonas '86 300SD 141k mi. '84 300TD 242k mi. |

Dave - had a similar problem on my 85 300TD- return line under engine leaked - as a temporary fix I cut the bad portion out and clamped a rubber hose in place of it - (make sure it will handle hydraulic fluid) - this is temporary - you can get tubing that will "compression fit" (just like your kitchen faucet do it yourself install kits - but bought at car parts store for tubing) This is a return line - not high pressure.
