Oil Filter FELL OFF!!!

I had an oil change done on a Honda once. Got about 5 miles from the shop when the oil pressure light came on.

Found the oil filter laying on the splash shield!

They put an oversized filter on. It was so big that when I tried to
put it back on it just free spun in my hand.

Jiffy Lube's response: Sorry

Thanks pal....

more of the same

Lube Express tried to put in a different oil than I specified, until I caught them just before the first bottle was opened and poured. While changing the filter, they put the oily nuts on the car between the hood and the windshield wiper and didn't remove the oil from the car.

"Dude, the oil in your car is so black your engine must be shot, listen to how it rattles."

"When was the last time you changed your differential fluid? It's filthy ; you know, you should change it every 6 months.", "Same with your transmission fluid."

Gee...never asked them to check those, specifically went in for a quick oil change and said just that.

A lesson learned. Based on other stories in this thread, I got off easy.

NEVER AGAIN.

There was a Valvoline quick oil change near my old place and they actually did a good job. If I was in a hurry, I’d take my domestic automobiles there.

Granted, they never saw the Benz, but they'd let me watch the change, the same manager worked there for many years and the employees seemed sharp. One of the few good one's... they are out there.

Can't trust anyone. Especially on an "oddball" diesel engine. My friend has his oil changed at a gas station. He noticed after the oil change the oil filter looked the same, but a little cleaner. He put a mark on it next time and after he got it back, sure enough the mark was on the same oil filter. He told them about it, and denied it and even showed him an oil filter in the garbage and told them it was his old one. Then he pointed out the mark and they all started laughing and said "you got us!". The fact is people just don't care.

I don't think they'll work on the 5 cylinder diesels. I've stopped by a few of them to ask if they could change my oil (for the heck of it). They all said no. I asked why and they told me that the housings crack easily.

Hmmmm, I've changed my oil lots of times and never had that problem. They must really crank those nuts down.

Most MB and the 6L Powerstroke Wal-Mart won't change. The reason: We don't stock the filter. If you bring the filter, you only get a $3 discount off the $15.88 or $18.74 service (For a $11 filter). That just dosen't make it a good value to have a Benz changed there.

Yes. The normal charge covers 5Q of oil. After that, they charge the normal perbottle cost. I almost feel sorry to charge the owners of the nice Powerstrokes (14 Q or 15Q), Cummins (12Q) and GM diesels.

And it's a $30 service if you get synthetic.
