Question Diesel on Chrome

How would you clean the diesel soot on the rear chrome bumper directly above the exhaust pipe (rough to the touch)? I have tried a number of metal polishing chemicals but to no avail. Any ideas?

Easy Fix

Take a piece of alluminum foil and crumple up. Slightly wet it and rub the "affected area" with pressure.

I'm not sure if you've tried Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream yet, but I've had very good results using it in that exact same spot you mentioned. It's a relatively cheap ammonia based product, it's easy to use, and it leaves a silicone film behind as a protectant.

However if that area of chrome is rough to the touch, it might be pitted/damaged beyond the help of any cream polish. And I doubt even aluminum foil will help...

That show "Myth Busters" on Discovery channel they showed that Cola and aluminum foil worked better at cleaning chrome bumpers than what ever chrome cleaner they put it up against.
Way wierd!

I used regular old cheapo Turtle Wax rubbing compound on mine and it looked like new. Just don't forget to mask off the rubber strip with tape so it doesn't get discolored from the rubbing compound.

Fine grade steel wool works best for me.
