Help -Timer Position
Trying to help a friend with a 84 300TD. Replacing the chain to Timer (and IP Mounts) he did not mark the position before removing. Are there any site marks on the engine to align when engine is TDC?

If you have pulled the timer and left the chain in, but didn't mark the timer, you are probably going to have to reset the injection pump.
If nothing moved, figure out where the key is and just install the timer in that position. Then check IP timing. If something has moved, or you are not sure, you need to verify cam/crank timing using the above pics after re-installing the timer, then check IP timing -- if way off, you will need to set engine to 24 or 26 degrees BTDC, then pull pump and set the start of injection on the IP by aligning the mark on the crank shaft with the mark on the flange (next to the screw in the upper left), then re-install pump and set timing. Best to mark the chain and timer first, then transfer mark to new timer..... Peter
