THank you guys for all your Helpful COmments!..I hope and think I got a great car

lindajane,

Over 30 years in a VW. You are a glutton for punishment. How many miles on the VW? Was it a Diesel?

Great:

The only VW that old would be a diesel rabbit. I am guessing it was a 70 or 71 VW bug.
I had a 70 till two year ago over a million miles on it. Still have my spare engine.
You'll love the Benz.
May it give you thirty more years of service.

Before going a step further, 20 year old Benzos must be named...Don't listen to PEH about oil changes or leathermang about parallel-flow condensers, name your ride. Don't wait too long either or we'll do it for you...

You Guys are great!

I drive a 1971 Volkswagen Convertible Bug named Emily...I don't know how many miles anymore..She was stolen once about 10 years ago and they Took the Engine!!...
I insisted insurance not total it and got another engine...
I am up againt familiar pressure and otherwise from People who don't understand the Deep connection one can get to a car!...People are telling me I have to sell Emily, etc....
I cannot part with her...That is out of the question!!!....I plan to keep her in my mothers garage (THATS gonna go over big)....Take insurance off her and drive the Benz....
Remember that old Woody Allen movie where they find that ancient VW in a cave and it starts right up????......That's how I feel about Emily...You never know when I may need her...and shes been good to me, I can't dump her...........
I'm open to any name suggestions for the Benz...
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks.....
Linda

Re: Re: I Bought It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lindajane, congratulations on the purchase! I have to agree, though; don't sell the VW. My first car was a '74 Bug, and I sold it after the engine blew up. I still wish that I had rebuilt the engine and kept the car (although not as a daily driver )...it was a fun lil' car.

I hate to go off-topic, but I have to ask why is this? I remember part of that discussion, but I don't remember ever hearing any negative things about the parallel-flow condensers.

Thanks!

Don't sell the Bug!! Your Convertible is just going to Appreciate in value...and being a die hard Volkswagen Bug Guy, I can't condone the sale of a Beetle, even to be replaced by a W123 (which is another must have).

Oh, do't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with parallel-flow condensers. It's just that at this point in lindajane's MBZ ownership, those sorts of things (Delvac 21, whither or not to drain your Hot Rotellas and the most, best method of elongating your cam chain) are fairly arcane.

IMHO — Right now, naming the ride is numero uno.

I attribute much of my successful wrenching to this Forum but, these guys don't get all the credit; I'm convinced that the 'strange and wonderful' relationships I have with my two Teutonic hussies is because they both got names early in the game.

lindajane,
It sounds like you already have the spirit. Emily is a great moniker for a bug. In another life, SWMBO had a Beetle named Otto and I had one named Flip (it had spent a moment or two upside-down once).

All in all, I've owned four Beetles a 1960, two 1967s and a 1973.

Ok Guys, I have to admit I had a VW beetle once.

Had it about an hour and 25 miles. That's how long it took me to tow it to a scrap metal recycler where it belonged (crunch).
