Door removal/reinstall?

How hard is it to line a door back up when you put it back on? The reason I ask is that I found the vac leak in my locking system, someone had taken the door off in the past (drivers door) and didn't get the rubber accordian thing back over the lines (between the door and the rest of the car). Theres a hole rubbed in the line for unlocking the other doors so it leaks anytime the doors are unlocked. Anyway, I can't get to the leak to fix it without removing the door and was wondering if they are hard to get realigned so they shut right....... if they are I may want to live without the locks working for a while longer.

Also, anything I should know before removing the door?

You don't need to remove the door to replace the boot, you can just pull (or push) all the lines and wires through. You can work from either side.

I'd get a replacement for the worn line, then remove the door panel and disconnect the wires for the electric window a the junction box (remember which one goes where, or the window will work backwards!). Remove the clips that hold the plastic lines in place, then find the rubber "T"s under the dash and pull the hoses out. Install the new boot, push the lines back through (on the W115, its easier to push from the door into the car, don't know about the W123) and reconnect. Probably best to run the window wires through first, the must come from the body into the door.

splice the line with...

model engine fuel tubing found at any hobby store. Be sure the gap of the spliced line is less than a 1/4 inch or the vacuum will colapse the splice. You should be able to make the splice by just pushing the boot out of the way, make the splice and reinstall the boot. Possibly no need to even remove any interior panels!

I'm glad this one came up. The boots on my "new" 300SD need to be replaced. Peter - are you saying that the way to do it is to push the tubes/wires from the dash side to the door or the other way around. I would think you would want to use an engine lift to hold that door if you unbolt it.
