Where are the 124 series?
I've been looking at car listings for while now, and I still haven't seen any 1985-90 200D or 250D listings. A friend in Canada confidently expects to find a 200e and I haven't seen any of those either. It's almost as though these cars were never sold in the U.S.. Can anyone furnish any information or report a sighting of these rare birds?

Actually, 1985 was the last of the 123 chasis.
From 86 to 93 in the 124 you will find the 300E (2.6 and 3.0) I believe there was a 260E in there during 86 to 88, 300D-3.0L Turbo and 2.5L Turbo; the 93 300E with the 3.2; 400E and 500E; then in 94 and 95 you will have the E300 (diesel - 95 only),E320, E420, E500.

Many on-line car listings make you choose from a list of cars. You probably won't see 200E or 250D in those lists. Hopefully you can search descriptions or look in the 'other' classification. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

Nitske shows the cars (200D & 250D) in his MB reference book but doesn't say why they're rare. I've been using the cars.com search machine and setting the distance and model to "all". In 18 months of car looking I haven't seen even one of these cars. But I hear they're common as mud in Spain.

They're not rare in the rest of the world, just rare in the US. You might as well look for a W124 in the US without auto climate control and alloy wheels. Or look for a 79 300SD outside North America.

VERY rare in the US.. like a needle in a haystack. IMO, a 200E is useless compared to a 300E or 260E.. a 250D would be nice if it had a manual transmission. The most common 124's you will find here are the 300E and 260E. If you look hard enough you may find an '87 300D Turbo, and if you look harder you may find a 300E with a 5-speed if you want to be unique.

Isn't the 300D 2.5 Turbo 'technically' a 250D Turbo

The numbers I guess no longer reflect the engine size as often. The trend with our age cars was to put the engine size on the other side of trunk from the model number. The C240 now has a 2.6L in it. People have told me they can't help me with my "1.9L engine" heh heh. I have a 220D anyway!
